Primary Function: The Bridge Painting Spray Applicator is a skilled and safety-conscious professional responsible for the proper application of coatings to bridges and other structural steel surfaces. This role requires physical capability to work at heights and in confined spaces, technical knowledge of coating systems, and the ability to work safely in rugged outdoor environments. The ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, relevant experience, and a commitment to quality and safety.
Compensation range is $26 to $30 an hour depending on experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensure the safe operation and maintenance of specialized under bridge equipment.
• Prepare surfaces by removing old paint, rust, scale, and other contaminants to ensure proper adhesion of new coatings, including abrasive/media blasting as required. Trip plan, drive, and operate commercial vehicles (CDL) required.
• Apply paints, stains, and protective coatings using various methods, with a focus on spray application.
• Work with a variety of coatings, including thin film epoxies, 100% solids, and sacrificial coatings such as zinc and aluminum.
• Mix and match paints to achieve correct color and consistency.
• Inspect surfaces and final finishes to ensure compliance with company and client specifications.

• Follow all applicable safety procedures when working at heights, near water, and in confined spaces.
• Complete all facets of coating applications, including cold and hot-applied coatings.
• Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Working knowledge and application of DOT HOS.
• Demonstrated knowledge of surface preparation, coating application, and safety practices in industrial settings.
• Experience with spray equipment and media blasting tools.
• Familiarity with AMPP/NACE cleanliness standards; CIP certification is preferred.
• Strong understanding of safety requirements related to working at heights, over water, and in lead exposure areas.
• Ability to read and follow project specifications and safety policies.
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm, focused and effective in pressure situations.
• Ability to take and pass Qualification exams (OQ).
• Ability to travel and work at various job sites throughout the United States for various durations approximately 90% of the year.
Education and Experience/Certifications:
• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• 1–5 years of experience in industrial or structural spray coating, with verifiable references.
• AMPP/NACE CIP certification preferred, but training and assistance will be provided to the right candidate.
• Must be able to pass a DOT physical, drug test, and pulmonary fitness test.
• Must possess a clean driving record.
Physical Demands:
• This position performs duties outdoors in changing environments, adverse weather conditions, and rugged job locations.
• Extensive physical exertion, such as bending and twisting, lifting, climbing, pulling, pushing, and/or carrying equipment or materials as needed.
• May require standing for long periods of time.
• Work from varying heights and, at times, over water.
• Drive company CMVs.
• Ability to lift items over 50 pounds, with or without the use of mechanical aid.
• Use of precision or semi-precision tools.
