The Senior Field Service Engineer – Flow Cytometry is responsible for providing advanced on-site and remote service support for flow cytometry instruments, with primary responsibility for customers located throughout the Midwest region of the United States. This role serves as a technical expert and escalation point for complex service issues, supporting instrument installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair while delivering exceptional customer service.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair flow cytometry instruments and associated optics, fluidics, electronics, and software
• Perform advanced diagnostics to resolve complex instrument performance issues
• Execute preventive maintenance, calibrations, upgrades, and validations per manufacturer specifications
• Serve as an escalation resource for junior field service engineers and technical support teams
• Provide remote technical support in addition to on-site service
• Deliver professional, high-quality service to customer laboratories throughout the Midwest region
• Train customers on instrument operation, care, and routine maintenance
• Communicate clearly regarding service findings, corrective actions, and instrument performance
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships
• Accurately document service activities, troubleshooting steps, and parts usage
• Ensure compliance with quality system requirements, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines
• Provide feedback to engineering, quality, and product teams regarding recurring issues
• Collaborate with applications, sales, technical support, and engineering teams
• Support installations, demonstrations, and customer onboarding activities within the assigned region
• Contribute technical input for service and product improvements
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, biology, biomedical sciences, or related technical field, or equivalent experience
• 5 years of hands-on field service experience with flow cytometry instruments
• Strong understanding of flow cytometry principles, optics, lasers, detectors, fluidics, and software
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical and optical systems
• Excellent customer-facing communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to travel frequently within the Midwest region (50–75%)
• Valid driver’s license
• Experience servicing flow cytometers from major manufacturers (e.g., BD, Beckman Coulter, Thermo Fisher, Sony, Miltenyi)
• Experience supporting high-parameter or spectral flow cytometry systems
• Background working in regulated environments (clinical, biotech, pharmaceutical, or academic labs)
• Familiarity with regulated quality systems such as ISO or FDA
• Advanced technical troubleshooting and diagnostic expertise
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Professional, customer-focused approach
• Ability to mentor junior engineers
• Comfortable working independently in a field-based role
Field-based position with primary responsibility for customer sites across the Midwest United States. Frequent regional travel, including overnight stays, is required.
