Accounting Supervisor

Position Summary

The Accounting Supervisor supports and leads key accounting functions to ensure accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, and compliance with applicable accounting standards and company requirements.

This position will provide leadership and technical support across financial accounting, manufacturing cost accounting, accounts payable and receivable, cash management, inventory, financial analysis, audits, and ERP systems.

They will work closely with Accounting, Production, Purchasing, Human Resources, Engineering, Logistics, and Plant Leadership to support financial accuracy, operational performance, cost control, and continuous improvement.

Scope of Responsibilities & Accountability

Is accountable for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial information while supporting the plant's operational and financial objectives. This position oversees and supports accounting processes, analyzes financial and manufacturing data, assists with financial reporting and audits, and identifies opportunities to improve accounting and operational processes.

Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Perform and review general ledger accounting and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
• Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Analyze financial information and provide meaningful insights to support plant decision-making.
• Maintain appropriate documentation and support for financial transactions.

Accounts Payable, Receivable & Cash Management

• Manage and oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes to ensure timely payments and collections.
• Support cash management activities, including cash forecasting and banking transactions.
• Monitor liquidity and cash flow performance.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies related to AP, AR, and cash transactions.

Manufacturing Accounting & Costing

• Support standard costing and manufacturing cost accounting activities.
• Analyze labor, overhead, and material variances.
• Review inventory transactions and ensure accurate inventory valuation.
• Monitor production reporting and financial performance metrics.
• Analyze the financial impact of scrap, rework, downtime, and other manufacturing variances.
• Support physical inventory and cycle count processes.
• Partner with Production and Plant Leadership to improve cost and inventory accuracy.
• Provide financial analysis and reporting to support operational performance and cost-control initiatives.

Audit & Compliance

• Support internal and external audit activities.
• Assist with coordinating external audits and responding to audit requests.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and applicable SOX requirements, where applicable.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation to support financial transactions and audit requirements.
• Identify potential control weaknesses and help implement corrective actions.

ERP Systems & Data Management

• Support the administration, maintenance, and optimization of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365).
• Ensure accurate transaction processing and data integrity within the ERP system.
• Assist users with accounting, inventory, and reporting functions.
• Participate in system enhancements, testing, and implementations.
• Develop and maintain reporting tools, dashboards, and operational insights.
• Maintain and validate ERP master data.
• Troubleshoot accounting and system-related issues.
• Collaborate with IT and business teams to identify and implement system improvements.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

• Support the development, training, and coaching of accounting team members.
• Assist with establishing and maintaining effective accounting processes and procedures.
• Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives within Accounting and across the plant.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, cost control, and financial reporting.
• Collaborate with Production, HR, Purchasing, and Plant Leadership to support business objectives.
• Provide financial information and analysis to assist leadership with operational and strategic decisions.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Entry Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Strong experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
• Understanding of manufacturing accounting and cost accounting principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, Power Query, and Power Pivot.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to analyze large data sets and financial information.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate financial information to both accounting and non-accounting personnel.

Preferred

• Experience in an automotive or manufacturing environment.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365).
• Experience with ERP system administration, implementation, or optimization.
• Experience with financial modeling and advanced data analysis.
• Experience supporting internal and external audits.
• Experience with standard costing, inventory accounting, and manufacturing variance analysis.
• Experience leading or supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience supervising, developing, or coaching accounting personnel.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in an office environment, with regular interaction with manufacturing operations and plant leadership.

This position may periodically require work on the production floor and exposure to typical manufacturing conditions. Follow all applicable APMM safety policies and PPE requirements while in manufacturing areas.

Physical Demands

Duties require extended periods of sitting, working on a computer, reviewing financial information, and performing standard office activities.

Occasional walking, standing, and interaction within the manufacturing environment may be required.
