HR Manager
Brighton, MI
A machining manufacturer in Brighton is looking for an HR Manager to join their team! Seeking 10 years of HR experience in manufacturing with strong payroll, benefits administration, compliance, HRIS and communication skills.
Position Summary
The Human Resources Manager supports all core HR functions within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for payroll administration, employee benefits management, HR compliance, HRIS maintenance, employee relations, and day-to-day HR operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of balancing administrative responsibilities with employee support and compliance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
- Process weekly and/or biweekly payroll accurately and on time
- Maintain payroll records, timekeeping data, attendance, and overtime tracking
- Coordinate with supervisors to verify hours, shift differentials, and attendance corrections
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee payroll inquiries
Benefits Administration
- Administer employee benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and 401(k)
- Coordinate open enrollment activities and employee benefit education
- Process benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations
- Serve as liaison between employees and benefit providers
- Maintain accurate benefits records and ensure timely reporting
HR Compliance
- Maintain compliance with employment laws and regulations including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, OSHA, EEOC, and other applicable laws
- Manage I-9 verification and employment eligibility documentation
- Assist with audits, reporting requirements, and policy updates
- Maintain employee files and HR documentation in accordance with legal requirements
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate job descriptions as well as the job posting process
- Design and administer employee pay structures while balancing internal equity, external market competitiveness, and company goals
- Represent HR on Safety Committee, support workplace safety initiatives and workers’ compensation administration
HRIS & Data Management
- Maintain and update HRIS systems with employee data changes
- Generate HR reports and metrics related to attendance, turnover, headcount, and payroll
- Support HRIS upgrades, implementations, and troubleshooting
- Ensure data integrity and confidentiality of employee information
Employee Relations & HR Support
- Serve as a point of contact for employee questions and HR-related concerns
- Assist with onboarding, orientation, and offboarding processes
- Support recruitment activities including job postings, interviews, and background checks
- Partner with supervisors and managers on employee relations matters
- Assistant with performance management; oversee performance review cycles and support managers as needed to complete performance reviews, set employee and departmental goals, create and manage performance improvement plans, and training initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 10 years of HR Generalist experience in a small-team, hands-on manufacturing environment
- Experience with payroll processing and benefits administration
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance requirements
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems
- Strong Microsoft Office skills
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
Preferred Qualifications
- HR certification such as PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent
- Experience supporting hourly and shift-based workforces
- Working knowledge of OSHA and manufacturing safety practices
- Experience working collaboratively and fostering trust/loyalty within a close-knit, family-oriented atmosphere
Salary : $70,000 - $95,000
