Position: Engineer/Technologist Division: Urban Development Location: Cape Town REPORTS TO Section Manager and/or Function Manager PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE To provide design and drafting services, prepare project documentation, and deliver appropriate technical support as required. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for all design and modelling aspects – from planning, conceptual design to detailed design and construction drawings of Roads, Stormwater, Water and Sewer Bulk Services and Reticulation, etc. Assist with supervising small teams (Technicians, Students, Draughtsmen, Graduates) Must be able to work in a team to support a leader but also take the lead on project designs. Ensure that required drawing standards and construction supervision requirements are maintained and deliver excellent client service if required when client facing. Prepare reports required by the project, implementation of all relevant codes of practice and ensuring that all work complies with SMEC’s quality control procedures Support Senior Engineers/Technologists with project management and take lead when required. Develop understanding of Functional Unit technologies and markets Construction administration and monitoring Apply SMEC’s quality systems and procedures and ensure enforcement Working with clients and municipal line departments to capture their requirements Develop specifications, BoQ’s, cost estimates, and prepare final tender documentation. RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE B.
