Position: Assistant Resident Engineer Division Construction and Pavements Location Kimberley REPORTS TO Section Manager and Contract Engineer PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE To provide elements of the construction works KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Contract Administration acting as Resident Engineer for this SANRAL Community Development Contract Reviewing the construction drawings and managing the processes of dealing with Contractor queries by liaising with the designers through the required communication lines Inspection of the works and test results for quality control Preparing and updating estimates to completion Maintaining records of site administration and communication in terms SMEC’s quality management system and Construction Manual Attending and contributing to taking minutes at technical and site meetings Maintaining monthly progress reports Liaison with clients and contractors Managing resources for site supervision Monitoring of quality of works Monitoring of programme and contract budgets Handling claims RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE The Assistant Resident Engineer shall hold as a minimum a BSc/B.Ing/BTech (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering and be professionally registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) At least 10 years’ experience in road and construction projects of which at least 5 years have been spent as a Resident Engineer. The Resident Engineer should have extensive experience in the use and interpretation of major conditions of contract and in managing contractual issues. (Experience with SANRAL Community Development Contracts will be advantageous.) He/she must be fluent in spoken and written English.
