Job Duties
Arlington County General District Court is looking for a dynamic individual that is looking for a position that requires strong multi-tasking abilities, exceptional inner-personal skills, and customer service. Position requires an individual to discuss and explain complicated courtroom procedures and policies to the public through phone or in person. Furthermore, position requires daily interaction with judges, attorneys, and law enforcement personnel. The Deputy Clerk is assigned operational responsibilities in a high-volume, fast-paced office with frequent deadlines. Ensures court’s instructions are executed and legal documents prepared with accuracy and in accordance with state and local policies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Duties include preparing detailed court documents in accordance with established guidelines, automated case management system data entry, scheduling matters for court, preparing correspondence, filing court documents, daily docket preparation and attending court sessions. Additional responsibilities include answering phones, assisting customers at the counter, assessing fines and costs, and receipting payments. Must be able to multitask and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications
The most competitive candidates will possess:
High school degree required. Some higher education a plus.
SKILLS: detail-oriented, highly accurate, and excellent at follow-up and juggling competing priorities in a fast-paced office. Organizational skills; Bi-lingual skills a plus, but not required. Must have the ability to explain procedures in a clear and easy to understand manner in person and on the phone. Experience handling money is highly desirable. Courtroom knowledge and experience a plus. Must be able to do data entry at 35 WPM while answering a multi-line phone system.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work is primarily performed in an office and courtroom setting. Duties require the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and operate standard office equipment. The employee may be required to lift or carry items weighing up to approximately 10 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
