Support Services of Virginia is recruiting Sponsored Residential Providers in South Central Virginia interested in supporting adults with intellectual disabilities through long-term residential placements.
Sponsored Residential Providers create a welcoming home setting where individuals can develop independence, strengthen community connections, and receive support tailored to their daily needs.
Household Types Welcome
Applications are welcomed from:
• Individuals
• Couples and partners
• Family groups and shared households
Homes with children under the age of 12 are generally discouraged for this program.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must:
• Be 21 years old or older
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Be engaged within their local community
• Have at least six months of personal or professional experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, preferably adults
• Be comfortable using computers and electronic documentation systems
• Demonstrate strong writing skills
Individuals who do not yet meet experience qualifications may have opportunities available through SSVA’s Direct Support Professional (DSP) positions.
Relatives of eligible individuals may apply to become providers, though additional approval requirements apply for related households.
Role Overview
Sponsored Residential Providers serve as subcontracted providers partnered with Support Services of Virginia and are not considered employees.
Providers assist with all areas of support while helping individuals participate in community life and pursue greater independence. SSVA carefully considers compatibility, interests, and lifestyle preferences when matching individuals with provider homes.
Program Details
• Payments are issued on a biweekly schedule
• Certification may take up to three months
• Required training is provided at no cost
• Homes must meet licensing approval standards
• Applicants must provide detailed lifestyle and household information
• Providers must comply with program and licensing expectations
• Providers should embrace diversity and support individuals with different needs and personalities
