Job Overview
Superior Energy Solutions has been providing Solar Sales and Installations in Northwest Ohio since 2009, and with new leadership has experienced 600% growth since 2023.
The Solar Service and Installation Technician supports the installation, service, and commissioning of residential and commercial solar PV systems under the direction of the Lead Installer or Journeyman Electrician. This role is essential to ensuring high-quality installations, safe work practices, and efficient project execution. Responsibilities include physical installation tasks, assisting with system startup and troubleshooting, performing basic service work, and supporting field crews with materials, logistics, and jobsite preparation.
I. Service, Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Assist with service calls, including basic diagnostics, inverter resets, connector checks, wire inspections, and component replacement under supervision.
Support troubleshooting efforts for communication issues, monitoring failures, low-production alerts, or system faults.
Conduct routine preventive maintenance tasks, including system inspections, torque checks, cleaning, and reporting findings.
Document all service activities, including photos, readings, and site notes for work order completion.
II. Startup & Commissioning Support
Assist the Lead Installer with startup tasks including voltage checks, panel/inverter activation, system labeling, and punch list completion.
Help ensure installations meet NEC requirements and manufacturer specifications ahead of inspections.
Support monitoring setup and verify proper equipment communication and data reporting.
III. Project Coordination & Field Support
Coordinate with the Lead Installer and Project Manager regarding daily goals, material needs, safety items, and field challenges.
Assist with basic measurement, layout, and preparation tasks prior to installation.
Support procurement activities by organizing inventory, reporting shortages, and maintaining job-specific materials.
Attend pre-construction or daily huddle meetings to understand project expectations and sequencing.
IV. Installation Support
Assist with the physical installation of solar PV systems, including racking assembly, module placement, conduit routing, wire management, and site preparation.
Support electricians with wire pulls, equipment mounting, labeling, and preparing components for inspection.
Follow project drawings, installation plans, and verbal direction from the Lead Installer to ensure accurate execution.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite and help manage tools, materials, and equipment.
Load, unload, stage, and track materials daily to ensure efficient workflow.
V. Safety & Compliance
Follow all company safety policies and OSHA/EHS requirements, including proper PPE usage, fall protection, and ladder safety.
Participate in daily safety briefings and toolbox talks.
Immediately report any unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses.
Follow proper electrical safety practices and never work on energized systems unless trained and supervised.
VI. Teamwork & Professionalism
Work collaboratively with crew members to ensure high productivity and quality standards.
Maintain professional and respectful communication with customers, inspectors, and team members.
Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
Show a willingness to learn solar installation skills, electrical basics, and industry best practices.
VII. Tools, Materials & Logistics
Maintain company tools and equipment in clean and reliable working condition.
Assist with vehicle organization, material storage, and tool inventory.
Provide input on tools or practices that can improve installation efficiency.
VIII. Qualifications
1 year of construction, roofing, electrical, mechanical, or related hands-on experience preferred.
Ability to use standard hand tools, power tools, and basic electrical test equipment (training provided).
Strong mechanical aptitude with willingness to learn solar and electrical systems.
Ability to read simple drawings or follow technical instructions.
Comfortable working outdoors, on rooftops, and in varying weather conditions.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
IX. Additional Requirements
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work at heights on ladders or roofs.
Willingness to travel regionally to job sites and occasionally work extended hours.
OSHA 10-Hour certification preferred (training available).
Must maintain a professional appearance and customer-facing demeanor.
