SUNY Maritime College, located in Throggs Neck (Bronx), New York, is looking for an outgoing, responsible and motivated Head Camp Counselor to ignite program participants' interest in aquatic and maritime activities such as: sailing, powerboating, marine environmental science, kayaking, swimming, SCUBA diving and other waterfront activities and adventures during the summer program season. The Head Counselor is also responsible for leading camp-wide activities and mentoring counselors and counselor-in-training (CITs). Candidates with previous work experience as a Maritime Adventure Camp counselor will be given preference for the Head Counselor position.**Responsibilities:**-
Serve as a mentor and role model for Counselors-in-Training (CITs) and Counselors-
Coordinate and lead camp-wide activities such as morning gathering (Flagpole), team building activities, field games, and color war events-
Cultivate a camp culture where everyone feels welcome and a strong sense of belonging-
Help lead staff training during orientation and throughout the summer-
Ensure a safe and fun learning environment for 3rd
Prepare, maintain, properly clean, and stow all equipment-
Assist with sailing, powerboating, marine environmental science, swimming, and other summer programs at the Waterfront, including "Boogie Down to the Sound"-
Perform all other duties as assigned by Waterfront Staff
Job Requirements
Passion for and experience with working with children in a dynamic outdoor environment-
Ability to work well with others as a collaborative team player and take initiative as a leader-
Current CPR and First Aid Certification, or ability to achieve before summer***Preferred Qualifications:***-
Experience in a camp setting, especially as a counselor-
Sailing, powerboating, swimming, and/or paddling experience-
USCG Launch Tender License-
Lifeguard certification
