Broad Function

SUNY Adirondack is a teaching- and learning-centered community college, which fosters a diverse and equitable learning environment for students of all ages, backgrounds, goals, and learning styles. A member of the State University of New York, located in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, one hour north of Albany and thirty minutes from Saratoga Springs. A bachelor's degree is attainable on our Queensbury campus through our SUNY Plattsburgh extension center and, beginning in Spring 2025, on our Saratoga campus through a partnership with SUNY Cobleskill. While many of our students are first-generation college educated and from rural areas in upstate New York, we are excited by the influx of students from downstate and out of state who can live in our 400-bed residence hall.

With interactive classroom instruction and one-on-one guidance outside of class, our faculty and staff are committed to personal and public transformation through education, with an emphasis on critical and creative thinking. With a population of 23 percent returning adults and 15 percent people of color, SUNY Adirondack maintains a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion and to the welfare of its growing multicultural student body.

Major Responsibilities

  • Participate in course and curriculum development.
  • Teach assigned course(s) using evidence-based teaching/instructional strategies that are relevant for all methods of delivery; standards of clinical practice; and includes principles of diversity, equity, and or/inclusion.
  • Evaluate student learning and progress.
  • Promote relationships with clinical agencies that are conducive to student learning.
  • Role model professional nursing practice.
  • Work with faculty to develop, coordinate, and teach laboratory skills and simulations that meet the learning outcomes for the assigned course(s).
  • Act as the coordinator for health science division courses with a clinical component.
  • Assist in the orientation and mentoring of full and part time faculty.
  • Evaluate clinical adjunct faculty per policy.
  • Participate in Health Sciences Division meetings
  • Conduct annual course and program assessment and evaluation.
  • Participate in committees and/or activities for the Health Sciences Division and within the college governance structure.
  • Maintain membership in a professional organization.
  • Attend or participate in educational programs to remain current in course content
  • Verify student qualifications for course enrollment and clinical assignment requirements.
  • Select equipment, material, and textbooks for course(s) being taught.
  • Make recommendations for the Health Sciences Division budget.
  • Verify student qualifications to meet eligibility requirements for graduation as applicable.

Required Skills

  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in NYS.
  • Previous teaching previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Experientially qualified for the course(s) being taught.
  • Experience in curriculum development and an understanding ACEN accreditation preferred.
  • The candidate must meet the qualifications to teach CNA, PCA, and HHA New York State curriculum.

Educational Requirements

Minimum of a master’s degree in nursing or have a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and actively pursuing graduate study in nursing from a nationally accredited nursing program.

Salary
Placement on salary scale reflects individual degrees/experience. The minimum starting salary is $52,489 and is complemented by a generous benefits package. Summer teaching and overload are additional.
