Project Controller

What You Will Do
This role sits at the center of project execution, supporting the technical team by keeping costs, schedules, and forecasts tightly under control. You will work closely with project managers, leadership, and clients to provide clear financial visibility across multiple projects.
Project Controls and Tracking
• Build and maintain project cost trackers for active and proposed projects
• Track budget versus actuals, commitments, and forecasts across multiple work packages
• Support development of project budgets and updates as scopes evolve
Invoicing and Revenue Support
• Prepare draft invoices, reconcile time and expenses, and coordinate with project managers before submission
• Ensure costs are coded correctly to projects, tasks, and phases
• Support revenue recognition and work in progress reviews as needed
Forecasting and Reporting
• Develop and maintain monthly and quarterly cost forecasts for projects
• Prepare internal reporting packages that summarize spend, variances, and risks
• Create simple, clear visuals and tables for leadership and client presentations
Data Management and Systems
• Maintain organized project files, logs, and registers for budgets, changes, and contracts
• Help refine and improve internal templates for AFEs, budgets, and reports
• Support integration of project data into tools such as Excel, Smartsheet, and other platforms
Coordination and Support
• Work closely with technical staff to understand scope, schedule, and risk drivers
• Participate in internal project review meetings and support preparation of materials
• Occasionally support field or site based work with basic cost and schedule tracking on active programs
What You Bring
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Engineering, or a related field
• Experience: Approximately two to seven years of experience in project controls, project accounting, or related roles. Experience in consulting, construction, mining, or engineering environments is preferred
• Technical Skills
o Strong Excel skills including formulas, lookups, and basic charts
o Comfort working with budgets, cost codes, invoices, and financial data
o Familiarity with project management or accounting software is a plus
o Experience with Smartsheet, Power BI, or similar tools is a bonus but not required
• Work Style
o Detail oriented, organized, and reliable with a strong sense of ownership
o Clear written and verbal communication, including concise email and summary writing
o Able to work independently in a remote and hybrid environment while collaborating with the team
• Travel: Willing and able to travel occasionally, including trips to remote sites for project or client meetings
• Location: Must live in the greater Reno area or be willing to relocate upon hire
