POSITION SUMMARY

The Grounds Crew team member is responsible for the preparation, presentation, and maintenance of all cemetery grounds and burial properties. This role ensures that all burial spaces are prepared accurately, safely, and with the highest level of care and respect.

This position also maintains the overall appearance of the cemetery, ensuring all grounds, facilities, and landscaping reflect a clean, professional, and well-maintained environment for families and visitors.

This role requires strong attention to detail, physical endurance, and a commitment to safety, accuracy, and respectful service. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & OWNERSHIP

Burial Preparation & Completion (Primary Ownership)

· Prepare, set up, and close burial properties accurately and safely

· Ensure all grave locations, measurements, and setups are correct

· Complete all burial-related tasks with attention to detail and respect

· Confirm all work is completed fully with no errors or rework required

Grounds Maintenance & Presentation (Primary Ownership)

· Maintain cemetery grounds, including turf, landscaping, walkways, and buildings

· Ensure all areas are clean, orderly, and presentable at all times

· Remove debris, trash, and environmental hazards promptly

· Maintain a professional and respectful appearance of all grounds

Equipment Operation & Care (Primary Ownership)

· Operate all equipment and vehicles safely and efficiently

· Perform routine maintenance and ensure proper storage of equipment

· Identify and report equipment issues promptly

· Follow all safety guidelines when operating machinery

Safety & Compliance (Primary Ownership)

· Follow all OSHA and company safety standards

· Use required PPE and protective equipment at all times

· Maintain safe work practices in all tasks

· Identify and address safety risks proactively

Service Support & Customer Interaction (Shared Accountability)

• Provide respectful and professional interactions with families, vendors, and team members
• Support services and special projects as needed
• Maintain a calm and respectful demeanor during burial services and family presence

Teamwork & Operational Support

· Assist other departments when needed

· Communicate clearly with team members and leadership

· Support team workload to ensure all work is completed on time

Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience:

• 1–2 years of grounds maintenance or landscaping preferred
• Experience operating equipment (mowers, tractors, backhoe) preferred

Valid driver’s license with insurable record 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

· Work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays

· Accommodate extensive lifting-up to 100 pounds from ground to 36” and able to carry this weight up to 50’; lift up to 20 pounds over the head and back down for up to 4 hours at a time

· Work outdoors in all weather conditions

· Able to wear protective gear as required by OSHA and/or the company

· Maintain a respectful and a calm demeanor when interacting with families and co-workers

· Safely operate all company equipment and vehicles

· Work with various chemicals, and exposure to dust, pollen, water, and other organic debris

Climb ladders, working in high places, reaching above head 

Salary : $18 - $22
