Job Description:
The Technical Manager for Sunny Delight provides Technical leadership for Sunny Delight’s Sherman site. He/she is responsible for planning and executing technical initiatives at the site using a combination of internal and external resources. The Technical Manager will also provide technical skill development, coaching and leadership to the Sherman technical and operations teams. The Sherman site Technical Manager is part of the SDBC North America technical team, and will also support other plant and company-wide projects/initiatives as needed.
The Technical Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager, Jason Waller.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Provide technical leadership and coordination of new product/process initiatives and improvements for the Sherman plant site, and other sites as needed. Responsible for multiple, complex projects executed simultaneously.
- Coach and develop plant Technical team leaders in their technical capabilities and leadership skills.
- Coach and lead plant maintenance team. Utilize Llumin and other programs to manage maintenance and storeroom activities.
- Partner with the AM/PM/E&T Pillars to leverage technical expertise, training capability, and project management skills to develop the capability of Technicians at every level in the Sherman site.
- Use expertise and team-oriented approach to own and achieve key plant performance results: Throughput, Overall Equipment Effectiveness/Reliability, and Capacity utilization.
- Support day-to-day results while managing the medium and long-term vision & project work.
- Support and help drive overall results for the plant: Productivity, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Morale.
- Operate effectively in a self-directed team-based, Lean, and flat organization without hierarchical barriers.

- Ability to work indoors or outdoors, ability to travel on company business, and meet all physical requirements for SDBC (with reasonable accommodations if qualified individual with a disability.) Report immediately to your Site Quality Leader and Operations Leader all conditions that may pose a risk to product food safety and/or quality. Food Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility .
Qualifications/Expectations:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, BSME, BSEE or equivalent technical major or equivalent technical experience is required (5-7 yrs). MS in Engineering and/or MBA is a plus.
- Seven to ten years of experience in a technical leadership role in a manufacturing/process/beverage environment.
- Project Management skills and experience in implementation of significant projects (>$1MM).
- Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to provide leadership in a team-based environment.
- Exposure to Lean/Six sigma tools and training and/or experience working in a Lean process environment.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral, are required. Bi-lingual skills in Spanish would be a plus.
- Excellent analytical skills, ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues, problem-solving tools and skills are required.
- Computer skills required: Internet research skills, Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook, MS Project, Access, AutoCAD, VISIO)
- Previous training in Automation Systems including: HMI: Wonderware (InTouch), RS View, Panel View, Allen Bradley (RSLogix 5, 500, 5000), Modicon, TI, GE, Mitsubishi, Square D, Egemin
- Training in Network Systems: Ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Familiarity and capability with other software and computer – based tools desired: ERP systems (i.e. Axapta/MS Dynamics, SAP, J.D. Edwards, etc.)
- Outstanding time management/prioritization and organization skills required.
- Ability and willingness to travel 15-30% of the time.
