The Formation Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining battery formation equipment to ensure proper charging and conditioning of battery cells in accordance with production specifications. This role plays a critical part in product quality, safety, and throughput within a high-volume battery manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor battery formation equipment, including charge/discharge systems and cooling units
- Set up formation racks and connect battery cells according to work instructions and safety protocols
- Monitor voltage, current, temperature, and other parameters throughout formation cycles to ensure product quality
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on formation equipment
- Accurately record operational data in the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and maintain logs for traceability
- Identify and troubleshoot equipment or process issues and escalate to Maintenance or Engineering as needed
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards, including handling of electrolyte and hazardous materials
- Collaborate with Quality and Engineering teams to resolve non-conformances and support continuous improvement initiatives
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment with temperature variations, noise, and other conditions typical of warehouse environments.
Basic Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident. Employment‑based sponsorship is not available.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1–3 years of experience in battery manufacturing, electrochemical processing, or a related industrial or production environment.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic computer skills, including data entry and use of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or similar platforms.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, technical documentation, and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrated dependability, reliability, and consistent attendance.
- Willingness and ability to work in a manufacturing environment and follow all safety, quality, and production requirements.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience with battery formation, charging/discharging systems, or electrochemical processes.
- Basic understanding of electrical principles and battery chemistry.
- Technical aptitude with the ability to follow diagrams, procedures, and standardized processes.
