What are the responsibilities and job description for the Solar Advisor position at Sundog Solar?
Solar Advisor, Sundog Solar
Searsport, ME | Full-Time | Outside Sales
Compensation: $50K–$90K OTE (base salary commission)
Sundog Solar has been powering Maine homes and businesses with solar, battery storage, heat pumps, and EV charging since 2009. We're a locally-owned team of 35 covering Central, Midcoast, and Downeast Maine, and we're looking for a driven Solar Advisor to grow with us.
Why Sundog Solar
- Established company, 15 years in Maine, strong reputation and repeat/referral business
- This is a warm-lead role. You'll spend your time with homeowners who've already raised their hand, through referrals, inbound inquiries, or community outreach, rather than chasing strangers
- Full product lineup to sell: solar, battery storage (Tesla, EG4), heat pumps, EV charging
- Supportive design and install teams so you can focus on the client relationship, not the technical drafting
- Company vehicle provided for sales trips
The Role
As a Solar Advisor, you'll guide Maine homeowners and businesses from first conversation through signed contract, assessing their energy needs, building custom proposals, and closing deals that put them on a path to energy independence. This is a relationship-driven, consultative sales role, not a high-pressure pitch job.
Territory: Greater Maine, with about 90% of your work within 2–2.5 hours of Searsport. Company vehicle provided for sales trips. Expect periodic community events and trade shows throughout the year.
What You'll Do
- Engage and educate new leads on solar, storage, and electrification options
- Conduct on-site assessments to scope the right system for each property
- Build and present solar proposals using our design software
- Partner with our design team to fine-tune custom system layouts
- Negotiate pricing and close contracts
- Manage your pipeline in HubSpot CRM
- Hand off cleanly to our installation team for seamless project execution
- Build long-term client relationships that generate referrals
What You Bring
- Must be a Maine state resident
- Proven outside sales experience with a track record of closing
- 1 year in solar sales, or a college degree in a related field
- Working knowledge of solar/electrical systems, ROI, payback periods, and solar financing
- Comfort with CRM tools (HubSpot or similar), Google Drive, and basic spreadsheets
- Strong listening skills, since you sell by understanding the customer's actual needs
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage your own pipeline and schedule
Nice to Have
- Experience with solar design software
- Familiarity with QuickBooks or project management platforms
We're a close-knit, team-first company where safety and collaboration matter as much as sales numbers. Ready to help Maine go solar? Apply today and join us in building a cleaner energy future, one customer at a time.
