ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Donor Intake & Collection Support
- Assist with donor registration, screening, and intake procedures in accordance with SOPs.
- Support phlebotomy procedures and donor monitoring during and after donation.
- Observe donors for adverse reactions and promptly report concerns to appropriate staff.
- Provide donors with post-donation care instructions and support.
Donor Scheduling & Engagement
- Reschedule donors at the bedside following donation, reinforcing donor frequency guidelines and supporting ongoing donor engagement. Bedside rescheduling is an integral part of donor retention and is a daily responsibility.
- Make outbound calls daily to eligible donors to schedule their next donation appointment, in accordance with department guidelines, approved scripts, and donor eligibility requirements.
- Answer donor questions related to scheduling, eligibility, and donation frequency.
Operational & Team Support
- Assist with setup, breakdown, and cleaning of donor areas and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Support inventory management by stocking supplies and notifying leadership of low inventory levels.
- Follow direction from Crew Chiefs and leadership to support daily operations.
Assignment-Based Operational Responsibilities
Donor Services team members may be assigned to fixed-site operations, mobile blood drives, concierge services, or a combination thereof based on organizational needs. Assigned duties may vary by location and operational setting but remain consistent with the scope, qualifications, and expectations of the Donor Services role.
- Support operations at fixed donor centers, mobile blood drives, and other approved collection sites as assigned.
- Assist with mobile unit setup, breakdown, and site readiness activities.
- Operate or assist with the operation of SunCoast Blood Centers vehicles, including serving as a driver or designated meet-and-greet team member on mobile units, if assigned and subject to insurability requirements.
- Maintain a professional, donor-focused presence upon arrival, during operations, and at departure from collection sites.
- Adapt to variable work environments, including outdoor locations and changing weather conditions, when assigned to mobile operations.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Perform all duties in compliance with FDA, AABB, OSHA, and SunCoast Blood Centers policies and procedures.
- Accurately complete required documentation and data entry.
- Maintain donor confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in required meetings, training, and professional development activities.
- Assist with mobile drives or fixed-site operations as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support SunCoast Blood Centers’ mission, vision, and values.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift or move materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Manual dexterity for phlebotomy support and computer-based documentation.
Environmental Requirements
- Work performed in donor centers and mobile blood drive environments.
- Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens; appropriate PPE required.
- Occasional outdoor work and exposure to varying weather conditions during mobile drives.
LEGAL AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
All duties must be performed in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, including FDA and AABB regulations. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background screening and drug testing in accordance with SunCoast Blood Centers’ Drug-Free Workplace policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
Previous experience in customer service, healthcare, phlebotomy, or a related field preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to follow instructions, SOPs, and safety protocols accurately.
- Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with donors and team members.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and electronic documentation.
- Willingness to learn phlebotomy and donor services procedures.
Licenses / Certifications
- A valid Florida Driver’s License and driving record that meets SunCoast Blood Centers’ insurability requirements are required for roles assigned to mobile or fleet operations. Driving responsibilities are assignment-based and may vary based on operational needs.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred or willingness to obtain as required by the organization.
