What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mountain Bike Patrol position at Sun Valley Resort?
The Bike Patroller helps maintain a safe and exceptional mountain experience through trail safety monitoring, emergency response, guest assistance, and trail maintenance. This role supports daily mountain biking operations, provides first response care when needed, and promotes a safety-first culture for guests and team members. The ideal candidate is passionate about the outdoors, skilled in mountain environments, and committed to delivering an outstanding guest experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional front-line guest service by offering assistance, information, and support while contributing to a safe and memorable mountain experience
- Support daily mountain biking operations, including trail opening and closing procedures
- Patrol hiking and biking trails to monitor conditions and promote guest safety
- Provide emergency response and administer first aid as needed
- Maintain accurate incident documentation and complete required reports
- Assess, maintain, and repair trails to support safe conditions and minimize environmental impact
- Monitor and communicate daily trail conditions and status updates
- Promote mountain bike safety awareness through guest interaction and visible trail presence
- Assist with race events and special event support as needed
- Perform lift evacuations as required
- Collaborate with other mountain departments to support overall operations
- Attend safety training and uphold all safety standards and procedures
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), EMT, or higher certification required
- CPR certification required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Advanced mountain biking skills with the ability to ride all terrain on Bald Mountain
- Strong risk management, decision-making, and guest service skills
- Experience working at heights or performing lift evacuation procedures preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally with guests and team members
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and mountain conditions
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
- Engage in physical activities like standing for long periods, walking, and utilizing hands for tasks that involve gripping, handling, and reaching
- Can safely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
