What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mountain Base Area Operator position at Sun Valley Resort?
The Mountain Base Operator supports the upkeep and maintenance of outdoor base areas across the resort during the 25/26 winter season. This role involves a combination of manual labor, equipment operation, and guest interaction, all with the goal of ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Duties and Responsibilities.

Maintain base areas by removing trash, sweeping walkways, and managing snow and ice for guest and employee safety

Set up and maintain signs, ski racks, tables, benches, and other outdoor fixtures

Perform basic landscaping, including mowing and weed control

Operate hand tools and heavy equipment such as skid steers, loaders, and sweepers

Support special events with setup, operations, and teardown

Monitor for hazards, ensure clear walkways, and mark obstacles as needed

Keep work areas, vehicles, and tools clean and in good working condition

Assist with general maintenance, construction, and other projects as assigned
Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age

Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including snow, wind, rain, and extreme cold

Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with guests and coworkers

Willingness to work early mornings, late afternoons, weekends, and holidays

High attention to detail and commitment to quality finish work and guest safety

Can safely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
- Engage in physical activities like standing for long periods, walking, and utilizing hands for tasks that involve gripping, handling, reaching, and working on uneven terrain

Manual dexterity and ability to operate hand and power tools effectively

Valid U.S. driver’s license required

Previous experience with snow removal, groundskeeping, or light equipment operation is a plus
