The Coordinator of Activities and Athletics provides operational leadership and administrative support for the district’s interscholastic athletic programs and student extracurricular activities. Functioning in the role of Assistant Athletic Director, this position ensures the seamless execution of game management, compliance with PIAA and district regulations, and the professional mentorship of coaching staff and activity advisors.
Essential Functions
- Compliance & Eligibility: Ensure the athletic departments remain in full compliance with PIAA regulations. Assist with student-athlete eligibility tracking, Title IX compliance, and health/safety mandates.
- Personnel Support: Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of coaching staff. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for coaches.
- Student-Athlete Development: Monitor academic progress and coordinate support services.
- Operational Oversight: Work with the Athletic Director to help manage day-to-day logistics and game management.
- Community Outreach: Collaborate with community groups to foster partnerships with the community and PDSD, providing more district offerings to regional students.
- Booster Club Liaison: Work closely with and coordinate booster club activities across all sports and activities
- Student-Leadership Development: Assist the Athletic Director in developing true school leaders among student-athletes.
- Bridge Athletics and Academics: Act as a liaison between the athletic department, extracurricular sponsors, and the school’s MTSS/Student Support Teams to ensure a holistic approach to student well-being.
- Monitor Attendance Data: Track daily and weekly attendance reports for student-athletes to identify early warning signs of chronic absenteeism and truancy.
- Implement Check & Connect Protocol: Serve as a mentor for the evidence-based "Check & Connect" intervention, supporting assigned students.
Extracurricular Activities Oversight
- Program Assistance: Assist with administrative oversight, guidance, and support for extracurricular clubs, student organizations, and their faculty sponsors.
- Facility & Schedule Management: Assist with coordinating scheduling, facility use, and transportation for extracurricular activities, ensuring equitable access and avoiding conflicts with the athletic calendar.
- Drive Student Engagement: Actively promote equitable student participation across all clubs and activities with a specific focus on identifying and recruiting disengaged or reluctant learners to high-interest activities.
- Monitor Participation: Assist in tracking student participation rates for activities and athletics.
- Volunteer Opportunities: Work to establish volunteer opportunities throughout the community for SV students seeking engaging, worthwhile activities.
