Sun Shuttle & Transit keeps communities across Central and Coastal California moving. We're hiring an Operations Transit Manager to lead day-to-day routes, overseeing drivers, dispatch, and fleet coordination while keeping safety and on-time performance front and center.
- Oversee daily transit operations, including route scheduling, dispatch, and on-time performance.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate drivers and operations staff; manage staffing levels and shift assignments.
- Monitor fleet readiness in coordination with maintenance teams to minimize service disruptions.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and other applicable federal, state, and local transit regulations.
- Develop and enforce safety policies, procedures, and training programs; investigate incidents and accidents.
- Analyze operational data (ridership, on-time performance, incidents) to identify trends and improvement
- opportunities.
- Manage operational budgets, control costs, and support planning for service expansions or changes.
- Respond to service disruptions, emergencies, and escalated customer complaints in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with dispatch, maintenance, HR, and safety departments to ensure smooth cross-functional
- operations.
- Prepare operational reports and present performance metrics to senior leadership.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing development of operations personnel.
- Ensure adherence to union agreements and company policies, where applicable.
- 3-5 years of experience in transit, transportation, or fleet operations management.
- Demonstrated leadership experience supervising drivers or operations staff.
- Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and transit safety standards.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with dispatch software, scheduling systems.
- Excellent written, verbal and tech communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations as needed.
- Valid driver's license; CDL a plus but not always required.
- Bilingual preferred not required. (Spanish)
