Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist during various dental procedures including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and pediatric treatments
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies, maintaining aseptic techniques and infection control standards
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans when applicable, ensuring proper patient positioning and safety protocols
- Record vital signs and medical history information accurately in electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic
- Manage medical documentation and coding for insurance claims while maintaining HIPAA compliance for patient confidentiality
- Provide chairside assistance using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and patient comfort
- Educate patients on oral health care instructions and post-treatment care procedures
- Maintain dental equipment, sterilize instruments, and ensure the clinic adheres to infection control standards
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing patient records when needed
- Stay updated on dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and current best practices in infection control
Qualifications
- Valid Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license or certification required
- Proven experience in general dentistry; experience in pediatric dentistry or specialized fields like prosthodontics or endodontics is a plus
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic is highly desirable
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely and accurately; certification in radiography preferred
- Familiarity with dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical imaging techniques
- Strong understanding of aseptic technique, anatomy knowledge, and dental assisting procedures including vital signs measurement and chairside assisting
- Experience working with pediatric patients is advantageous
- Excellent communication skills with both patients and team members
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
