What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cabinet Shop CNC Operator position at Sun Architectural Millwork?
CNC Operator
Sun Construction & Facility Services, Inc.
Longmont, CO | Full-Time, Hourly/Non-Exempt
Precision work, real ownership, and people who have your back
Since 1985, Sun Construction has built a reputation as the general contractor Front Range clients call when a project is too technically demanding for a typical commercial builder — advanced manufacturing facilities, laboratories, and mission-critical space for various government agencies, some of the largest companies in the world and several universities. We're one of the few GCs in our market with large in-house self-perform crews and our own millwork manufacturing division (Sun Architectural Millwork), which means the parts you make go straight into real projects.
We're looking for a CNC Operator who takes pride in precise work, solves problems on the fly, and wants to grow with us, not just run a machine.
Just as important to us: we're a family-owned company that means it when we say people come first.
What you'll do
- Set up and run the CNC machine to produce precise, quality parts
- Inspect finished work to confirm it was made correctly
- Check and maintain your machine daily so it's always in proper working order
- Solve problems as they come up and keep production moving
- Report defective materials or questionable conditions to the General Manager
- Keep your work area and equipment clean and organized
- Wear PPE correctly and follow all posted safety regulations
- Step up as a team leader when needed and mentor newer co-workers
- Safety at Sun isn't a poster in the trailer — it's built into how our teams work every day. We carry one of the best EMR ratings in the industry, and we back that up with ongoing safety training for our teams, not just a once-a-year checkbox.
What you bring
- 2 years of hands-on experience operating a CNC machine; millwork or woodworking experience is a plus
- Ability to read blueprints and shop drawings and use precision measuring tools
- High school diploma or GED; machining or trade school training is a plus
- Valid driver's license; must pass a 7-year background check and drug screen (UA) upon acceptance
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly rate: $25–$30 per hour, based on experience
- Time off that begins accruing immediately — no waiting period
- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
- Short-term disability coverage
