Sun America is seeking a hands-on Tool & Die Manager with strong precision machining experience to lead the design, maintenance, and performance of thermoforming dies.

This role is critical to our manufacturing success, owning die performance, reducing downtime, and ensuring consistent product quality. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in machining, tooling, and die work, and thrives in a fast-paced production environment where problem-solving and craftsmanship matter.

What You’ll Do

Tool & Die Leadership

  • Lead the design, build, maintenance, and repair of thermoforming dies and related tooling
  • Drive die performance improvements focused on quality, durability, and efficiency
  • Own die lifecycle management including preventative maintenance and replacement planning
  • Troubleshoot tooling and die issues to minimize downtime and scrap
  • Partner with vendors and internal teams for die fabrication, machining, and modifications
  • Standardize tooling practices, documentation, and maintenance processes

Precision Machining & Technical Expertise

  • Apply hands-on expertise in precision machining (CNC, manual machining, grinding, fitting, etc.)
  • Review and improve die designs for manufacturability and performance
  • Support tight tolerances and high-quality standards required for food packaging
  • Assist in machining, modification, or repair work when needed

Production & Operational Support

  • Work closely with Production and Maintenance to ensure tooling readiness
  • Support changeovers and optimize setup efficiency related to dies
  • Lead root cause analysis on tooling failures, defects, and downtime
  • Support new product launches, trials, and equipment installations

Leadership & Development

  • Train and mentor team members on tool and die best practices
  • Build a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and problem-solving

What We’re Looking For

  • 5 years of experience in tool & die, precision machining, or manufacturing tooling
  • Strong hands-on experience with thermoforming dies or plastics tooling
  • Proven experience in precision machining (CNC and/or manual machining)
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex tooling and production issues
  • Experience managing tooling vendors and outside machine shops
  • ERP experience (Business Central or similar) preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Physical & Work Environment

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving equipment
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
