Central Coated Products & Sun America is seeking an experienced 3rd Shift Production Supervisor to lead our overnight manufacturing operations. This position requires a leader who is equally passionate about developing people and driving operational excellence.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who enjoys being on the production floor, coaching employees, solving problems, and ensuring safe, efficient operations. You should have a strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment while also possessing the leadership skills to build trust, hold employees accountable, and create a positive, high-performing team.
This role is responsible for leading shift operations, supporting production, quality, food safety, maintenance coordination, employee development, and continuous improvement while ensuring company standards and customer expectations are consistently met.

Primary Responsibilities Leadership & People Development
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop production employees and shift leads.
- Foster a respectful, accountable, and positive work environment.
- Conduct regular floor walks, provide coaching, and recognize employee performance.
- Address employee concerns promptly and professionally.
- Conduct performance reviews in accordance with company guidelines.
- Support recruiting efforts by participating in interviews and providing hiring feedback.
- Partner with Human Resources on employee relations, corrective actions, attendance, investigations, and performance management.
- Ensure new employees receive proper onboarding, training, and follow-up.
Production & Operations
- Supervise and coordinate all manufacturing activities during the overnight shift.
- Assign labor and adjust staffing to meet changing production demands.
- Monitor production schedules and ensure customer commitments are achieved.
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
- Communicate production priorities and expectations to employees.
- Ensure materials, equipment, and resources are available to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate shift handoffs with incoming supervisors to ensure seamless communication.
- Maintain accurate shift reports and production documentation.
Safety, Food Safety & Quality
- Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, GMP, BRC, food safety, and company policies.
- Conduct routine safety observations and inspections.
- Verify employees are utilizing required PPE and following safe work practices.
- Ensure product quality standards are consistently achieved.
- Verify labeling, traceability, traveler packets, specifications, and documentation accuracy.
- Identify non-conforming products and coordinate containment and corrective actions.
- Maintain clean, organized, and audit-ready production areas.
Technical & Maintenance Support
- Utilize mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot production issues.
- Work closely with Maintenance to coordinate equipment repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Assist in identifying root causes of equipment downtime.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Maintain awareness of equipment performance and production flow throughout the shift.
Training & Development
- Maintain employee training records and qualification documentation.
- Ensure operators are trained and signed off before operating equipment independently.
- Identify skill gaps and implement development plans.
- Promote cross-training to improve operational flexibility.
- Support leadership development for future supervisors and team leads.
Quality Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure completion and accuracy of production logs, quality checks, sampling records, and operator documentation.
- Maintain product traceability throughout production.
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
- Assist with corrective action investigations and follow-up activities.
HRIS / Time & Attendance (Payright)
- Review and approve employee timecards.
- Manage attendance coding, PTO requests, schedule adjustments, and payroll exceptions.
- Document coaching conversations, attendance issues, and corrective actions.
- Ensure workforce records remain accurate and current.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Participate in HACCP, food safety, safety, and audit teams as assigned.
- Support inventory accuracy through proper material handling and labeling.
- Provide operational support in trained production areas when needed.
- Complete additional assignments as directed by leadership.
Qualifications Required
- Minimum three (3) years of manufacturing experience.
- Previous experience leading employees as a Supervisor, Team Lead, Lead Operator, or equivalent leadership role.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, production scheduling, and workflow management.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and production issues.
- Working knowledge of GMPs, food safety, quality systems, and manufacturing best practices.
- Ability to lead, coach, motivate, and develop employees.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn Payright and other company systems.
Preferred
- Associate's degree in Business, Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and leadership experience.
- Experience within food manufacturing, packaging, paper converting, plastics, or continuous manufacturing environments.
- Forklift certification or previous forklift experience.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
