Entry level Machine Operator at Central Coated Products and Sun America! This position can be filled at either our Central Coated Products or Sun America facility depending on staffing needs. We are a drug free facility and we test as part of our pre-hire process, this includes marijuana.
Shifts available:
- Second shift: 3pm – 11pm
- Third shift: 11pm – 7am
The Machine Operator is responsible for the safe setup, operation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of cup manufacturing equipment while maintaining all quality, food safety, and production standards. This role supports production efficiency, accurate ERP reporting, cross-training initiatives, and the training of new employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety & Food Safety
- Operate all equipment in a safe manner with guards in place and use required safety and lifting equipment
- Follow all GMP and Food Safety requirements including proper hygiene and clothing standards
- Report all safety, quality, and food safety concerns immediately
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
Communication
- Notify Supervisors or Team Leads of quality issues, machine concerns, material shortages, or downtime
- Communicate production status and shift updates effectively
Machine Operation
- Read and understand job specification sheets for each SKU
- Set up machines for operation including cleaning, sanitizing, and staging materials
- Operate front-end and back-end cup machines
- Monitor paper rack management and prepare rolls for changeover
- Cut rewinds correctly and ensure proper cup tube formation
- Monitor scrap levels and record all scrap accurately
- Perform routine quality checks and verify go/no-go standards
- Monitor machine speeds and production output
- Troubleshoot machine and material issues and identify defective cups
- Use roll lifters and other material handling equipment safely
- Run all SKUs as scheduled
ERP & Production Reporting
- Use the ERP system to scan work orders and record production activity in real time
- Ensure accurate data entry for production counts, scrap, and downtime
Cross-Training & Training
- Participate in cross-training across multiple machines and work centers
- Train and mentor new hires on machine operation, safety, GMP, and quality standards as assigned
Continuous Improvement & Flexibility
- Support continuous improvement and operational efficiency initiatives
- Perform duties outside the primary job scope as needed to support production
Overtime & Scheduling
- Work 8–10 hour shifts with mandatory overtime as required, including weekends and extended shifts based on production needs
Education and Experience Requirements
- Knowledge of cup department processes, cup quality standards, and machinery preferred
- Ability to read a ruler and follow detailed specifications
- Manufacturing or machine operating experience preferred
- Strong verbal communication skills
- ERP or production reporting system experience preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and perform repetitive movements for 8–10 hours per shift
- Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and use of hands for machine operation
- Ability to push and pull using a hand-operated pallet jack
- Ability to kneel or bend to diagnose machine or material issues
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Work Environment
- Production floor environment with moving machinery and moderate to high noise levels
- Required use of PPE and adherence to all safety and GMP policies
