Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Reading or a closely related area and an add-on endorsement for literacy coach or literacy specialist.
- Valid and current South Carolina educator certification in a closely related area.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level with experience in reading, reading recovery, and/or literacy instruction and any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must have add-on certification as a literacy coach/specialist OR be willing to actively pursue the literacy coach/specialist endorsement within an established timeline.
- Serves as a job-embedded, stable resource for professional development throughout the school in order to generate improvement in reading and literacy instruction and student achievement.
- Supports and provides initial and ongoing professional development to teachers based on an analysis of student assessment and the provision of differentiated instruction and intensive intervention.
- Models effective instructional strategies for teachers by working weekly with students individually and in whole and small groups.
- Facilitates study groups.
- Trains teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiated instruction
- Coaches and mentors colleagues.
- Works with teachers to ensure that research-based reading programs are implemented with fidelity.
- Works with all teachers (including content area and elective areas) at the school and helps prioritize time for those teachers, activities, and roles that will have the greatest impact on student achievement, namely coaching and mentoring in the classrooms.
- Helps lead and support reading leadership teams.
