QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree or higher from an accredited institution. Certification by the South Carolina State Department of Education in one or more core content areas. Endorsement to teach students in the Gifted and Talented Program is preferred. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Sumter School District Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities
- Sets up such problems, experiments, projects, and activities related to student needs, interests, and capabilities as are indicated.
- Identifies and supervises students in the preparation and execution of independent student projects in the area of special competence.
- Processes and maintains such classroom textbooks, supplies, and materials as are needed, following established school procedures in doing so.
- Preparing, implementing, and evaluating an annual educational plan for each student based on individually assessed needs in accordance with district procedures.
- Providing appropriate schedules for exceptional students involving school personnel as required.
- Seeking a variety of services through community resources and agencies tomeet the needs of exceptional students.
- Developing and monitoring the modified strategies for the students incoordination with the basic and gifted teachers as appropriate.
