Sumter Local Government Consulting is excited to partner with the City of Stone Mountain, GA, to find its next Public Works Director. This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced and emerging leaders in public works.
The City of Stone Mountain is centrally located in DeKalb County, on the east side of Metro Atlanta, close to major highways, shopping, and outdoor recreation. The City of Stone Mountain boasts an authentic historic downtown, established neighborhoods, and convenient access to Stone Mountain Park.
The Public Works Director will oversee both maintenance and capital projects. The Director will work directly with the City Manager and is a member of the leadership team. The City has a host of sales tax-funded capital projects on its to-do list, and the Public Works Director will be the key staff person responsible for bringing those projects to fruition.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associate’s degree from an accredited institution
• Thorough knowledge of modern public works practices
• 5 years of supervisory experience in a public works department
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Leadership experience running a public works department of similar size and complexity
• Bachelor’s degree
• Effective communicator with a strong ability to manage operations and derive value from consultants working for the City • Demonstrated customer service attitude Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• In-depth knowledge of public works systems, including water, sewer, sanitation, streets, parks, and building maintenance
• Strong supervisory skills with experience managing diverse teams
• Ability to manage budgets, prioritize projects, and allocate resources effectively
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with staff, residents, and City officials
• Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local regulations governing public works operations
