JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
**SUMNER COUNTY**

Position: Dispatch Trainee
Department: E911
Pay Level: 8 Pay Range: Starting Training Pay \$15.71
The Dispatcher performs specialized work in receiving emergency calls
for service and dispatching the appropriate police, fire, EMS, or
Emergency Management agencies to the incident scene. Using highly
technical computer aided dispatch systems (CAD) and multi-channel
radio/paging consoles, Dispatchers must act quickly, efficiently,
calmly, and accurately to process incoming emergency calls and dispatch
and coordinate emergency responder resources. High School Diploma or GED
Equivalent is required. Must obtain provided certification as an NCIC
Terminal Operator within 6 months of initial employment. Must obtain
provided certification as an APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator I and
Emergency Medical Dispatcher within one year of initial employment, and
obtain provided certification in the National Incident Management System
and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation within one year. Ability to use
computer keyboard and mouse to maneuver through and operate Windows
based Computer Aided Dispatch software and type 30 words per minute.
Ability to use radio/paging console.
Must pass minimum vision and hearing requirements as well as a
Pre-employment Drug Screen. May Be Required To Complete Other
medical/psychological testing as determined by the 911 Director.
Typing and skills testing is required. Public safety dispatchers WILL be
required to work night shift, swing shift, weekends, and holidays.
Overtime is frequently required. Applicants with criminal histories will
be disqualified.
