Founded in 2015 by five partners with over 150 years of combined government and government affairs experience, the firm specializes in federal matters involving transportation, infrastructure, natural resources, energy, tax, trade, labor, and tribal affairs. Summit Strategies represents businesses, trade associations, and a wide range of public entities.


Summit Strategies is seeking a Legislative Assistant to join our Capitol Hill team in Washington, D.C. While Summit does allow some flexibility for remote work on occasion, this job is primarily in person in our Washington, DC office. Successful candidates will thrive in a fast-paced office, be self-motivated, and able to tackle a variety of different tasks including:

 

Research and Analysis

  • Perform legislative and policy research including legislative tracking and analysis, federal and local grant tracking, and appropriations tracking.
  • Review a wide variety of publications daily and share relevant reports, alerts, and research with the Summit Strategies team.
  • Attend applicable congressional hearings, meetings and briefings, and draft summaries for internal and external use.
  • Monitor client specific current events, legislation, and regulations.

 

Communications and Marketing

  • Prepare written materials, including digital communications, assist with regularly updating the Summit Strategies website, and social media strategy.
  • Assist in the preparation of routine reports.  
  • Assist with proposal development, responses to RFP’s, and other business development efforts.  

 

Client Management

  • Work directly with clients, including drafting memos, client leave-behinds, talking points, and PowerPoint presentations, as well as organizing fly-ins and meetings for a wide range of clients.
  • Prepare client and partner schedules, including scheduling meetings with Members of Congress, government agencies, and other organizations.
  • Assist with putting together events in the Summit offices and elsewhere, for Summit clients and for candidate fundraisers.
  • Accompany clients and partners during congressional and agency meetings.

 

Summit is a small, tight-knit, and fully integrated team, and there is opportunity for the person in this position to grow and expand their duties and responsibilities.


Qualifications

Candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must be detail oriented, organized, and able to multi-task. Interest or previous experience in transportation, infrastructure, or natural resource policy and/or congressional scheduling, marketing, and/or communications is preferred. Graphic design skills are a plus. The ability to maintain the confidentiality of office work, client matters, and policies and procedures is mandatory. Compensation

$50,000 - $65,000 depending on experience plus a competitive benefits package.
