Summit Steel is a growing steel supply and fabrication company in Sioux City, Iowa, and we're looking for an Estimator to join our team.
If you have experience in structural steel, metal fabrication, construction, manufacturing, or a related field, this could be a great opportunity to put your skills to work on a variety of projects.
We're looking for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working with deadlines. The ideal candidate can hit the ground running, but we're willing to train the right person who has the right background, attitude, and willingness to learn.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As an Estimator, you'll play an important role from the initial bid through production. Your responsibilities will include:
- Review blueprints, specifications, and project documents
- Prepare accurate material, labor, and cost estimates
- Develop formal quotes, proposals, and scope lists
- Solicit and compare pricing from material vendors
- Communicate with General Contractors, customers, and subcontractors regarding bids and project requirements
- Clearly identify and communicate bid inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications
- Monitor bid performance with General Contractors
- Monitor purchasing and shop performance on awarded projects
- Assist with job costing and project reporting
- Work with the team to improve estimating accuracy, production efficiency, and profitability
- Help identify potential issues with materials, costs, scope, and schedules
- Manage multiple estimates and deadlines at the same time
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 3 years of blueprint-reading experience
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work effectively with coworkers, customers, contractors, and suppliers
- Strong work ethic and dependable attendance
- Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
PREFFERED
- 3 years of estimating experience
- Experience in structural steel or metal fabrication
- Construction or manufacturing experience
- Experience reading structural and architectural drawings
- Basic knowledge of Bluebeam and Tekla PowerFab
