REPORTS TO: General Manager
Summary
Plans, coordinates and manages 3 shifts of production manufacturing operations through subordinate department managers and supervisors to achieve production of high quality, low cost, on-time product for SPI’s customers while meeting safety objectives.
Responsibilities And Duties
Possesses the ability to gather and analyze information and make decisions from a limited number of choices. Requires experience in Plastic Injection Molding, Painting, and Automotive Assembly processes. Agreement to complete all post-hire required training.
This position typically does not require any travel.

Job Description
JOB TITLE: Manager, Manufacturing FLSA STATUS: Exempt

Summary
Plans, coordinates and manages 3 shifts of production manufacturing operations through subordinate department managers and supervisors to achieve production of high quality, low cost, on-time product for SPI’s customers while meeting safety objectives.
Responsibilities And Duties
- Meet manufacturing operation objectives including key metrics related to:
- Safety
- Quality
- Cost
- Delivery
- Ensure manufacturing operations have a safe working environment through:
- Safe work practices
- Employee awareness
- 5S and housekeeping
- Layered safety audits and closure of safety related issues
- Ensure plant manufacturing operations closely adhere to Summit Lean Manufacturing System (SLMS) practices. Key SLMS elements include:
- Standardized Work
- One for One Production
- KanBan
- Root Cause Problem Solving (PPS)
- Manage manufacturing planning tools:
- Molding GPE Workbook
- Paint GPE Workbook
- Assembly ADCALC Workbook
- Utilize manufacturing planning tools monthly to:
- Ensure production staffing complies with standard staffing allowances
- Ensure Molding and Paint equipment loading meets targeted capacity
- Ensure Molding and Paint stores are correctly planned and setup
- Train subordinate managers and supervisors
- Manage training of departmental hourly employees
- Participate in employee disciplinary process with subordinate managers, supervisors and Human Resource department
- Participate in PPS root cause problem solving activities
- Leads collaboration and team-work with other plant departments to optimize plant operations
- Ensure department compliance to SPI systems and procedures supporting:
- IATF 16949 Quality standard
- ISO 14001 Environmental standard
- Engage in new product development and pre-launch activities, ensuring manufacturing department participation, including:
- Training of production employees
- Molding, painting, and assembly pre-production runs
- Communication of issues
- Personally maintain plant floor focus, “go and see”, engage with all shifts
- Participate in quarterly employee shift meetings
- Other duties as assigned.
- College degree plus 4 years manufacturing experience or 6 years experience in a technical or management position in a manufacturing environment
Possesses the ability to gather and analyze information and make decisions from a limited number of choices. Requires experience in Plastic Injection Molding, Painting, and Automotive Assembly processes. Agreement to complete all post-hire required training.
- A minimum score of 50 on the Wonderlic Select Assessment (Traditional score of 26 on the cognitive portion).
