Summit County is seeking an experienced and motivated planning professional to join the Planning Department as either a Planner II or Senior Planner. This position provides an opportunity to work on a wide range of land use planning issues, including complex development proposals, long-range planning initiatives, and special projects that shape the County’s future. The position works closely with community members, partner agencies, and decision-makers to guide thoughtful growth, protect natural resources, and support the long-term sustainability of Summit County.
The Planner II / Senior Planner performs professional planning work involving land use planning, development review, long-range planning initiatives, and implementation of the Summit County Land Use and Development Code and adopted master plans. This position conducts planning research and analysis, prepares staff reports, and presents recommendations to decision-making bodies. The role also requires regular interaction with the public, applicants, and partner agencies to help guide development and planning projects within the County.
Planner II:
A Planner II performs professional planning work with increasing independence, including reviewing development applications, conducting research and technical analysis, preparing staff reports, and presenting projects at public meetings. The Planner II supports long-range planning initiatives and special projects, provides planning and zoning information to the public, and coordinates with County departments and outside agencies throughout the development review process.
Senior Planner:
A Senior Planner performs advanced professional planning work involving complex development proposals, major planning initiatives, and special projects directed by County leadership. This position often serves as a project manager for long-range planning efforts, master plan updates, and regulatory initiatives, and may assist with mentoring staff and coordinating departmental work programs. Senior Planners regularly present complex planning issues to elected and appointed officials and help facilitate solutions to challenging land use and community development issues.
Planner II
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, geography, landscape architecture, architecture, or a closely related field. A master’s degree in a planning-related field is preferred.
Experience:
Three (3) years of professional planning experience in local or regional planning, including development review or long-range planning, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible professional planning experience. Preference given to candidates with experience presenting projects at public hearings, interpreting land use regulations, and working directly with applicants and the public.
Senior Planner
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, geography, landscape architecture, architecture, or a closely related field. A master’s degree in a planning-related field is preferred.
Experience:
Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional planning experience, including complex development review, long-range planning, or project management. Preference given to candidates with experience managing complex planning projects, facilitating public meetings, preparing policy or regulatory updates, and presenting recommendations to elected or appointed decision-making bodies.
Salary : $76,303 - $84,887
