•Aids students with behavioral, mental, emotional or physical problems. •Counsels students whose behavior, school progress, or mental or physical handicap or condition indicates need for assistance. •Consults with parents, teachers and other school personnel for defining causes of problems effect solutions. •Arranges for medical, psychiatric, and other tests and examinations that may disclose causes of difficulties indicate remedial measures. •Attempts to alter attitudes and behavior of parents teachers that cause or aggravate problems. •Recommends change of class or school, special tutoring, or other treatment to effect remedy. •Serves as liaison between student, home, school, and community resources, like family service agencies, child guidance clinics, courts, protective services, doctors, and clergy members. •Serves as consultant to school staff regarding students or situations which are not referred for direct service. •May lead group counseling sessions to enhance social development of individual members provide peer support in areas like grief, stress, or chemical dependency. •Implementing and facilitating educational and training workshops for academic staff. •Participate in meetings and training as needed. •Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications/Requirements •Master’s Degree from an accredited educational institution. •Massachusetts Health Professional License: LICSW, LMHC. •Massachusetts License as a School Social Worker/School Adjustment Worker. •3 years of work experience as a counselor in an academic environment. •Experience working with special needs students. •Knowledge of learning styles. Ability to use varied teaching methods. Knowledge of current trends, research and best practices related to instruction. •Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality and following HIPAA guidelines; relationship building; and teamwork. •Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, IEP’s, operating and procedure manuals and government regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. •Other Skills and Abilities: Able to quickly respond and adapt to challenging, fast-paced, dynamic environments; strong planning and organizational skills; Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results, and prescribe actions for improvement. •Active Listening- Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. •Learning Strategies- Select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things. •Social Perceptiveness- Awareness of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors •Physical activity is a limited part of this role. •Often sitting/standing for extended periods. •Light lifting from 5 – 15 pounds. •May travel to school district and other professional meetings.

Salary : $65,000 - $70,000
