What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time SLP position at Summit Academy School?
•Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders; gathers background data, reviews referrals, selects and modifies evaluation tools, and evaluates patients determining the level of patient’s physical and psychosocial functioning.
•Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
•Educate students, families and teachers about treatment methods and/or proper safe use and recommend methods for installation of adaptive equipment.
•Work collaboratively with professionals from many other disciplines.
•Provide counseling and consultative services.
•Compile extensive notes on students' progress and adjust therapies and treatment plans where necessary; maintain student records.
•Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in their (IEP).
•Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the student.
•Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials for therapy.
•Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and understand communication deficits in students.
•Participate in meetings and training as needed.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
•Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology, Speech Therapy or related degree.
•Current Massachusetts Speech Language Pathology and Audiology license.
•Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
•2 years of work experience with communication disorders in school-aged children and adolescents..
•Experience working with special needs students.
•Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions.
•Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions.
•Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
•Knowledge of learning styles. Ability to use varied teaching methods. Knowledge of current trends, research and best practices related to instruction.
•Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality and following HIPAA guidelines; relationship building; and teamwork.
•Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, IEP’s, operating and procedure manuals and government regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
•Other Skills and Abilities: Able to quickly respond and adapt to challenging, fast-paced, dynamic environments; strong planning and organizational skills; Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results, and prescribe actions for improvement.
