Summer School Principal – Internal Job Description
Position Title: Summer School Principal
Reports To: Executive Director of School Leadership
Position Overview:
The Summer School Principal serves as the educational leader and primary administrator for the district’s summer school program. This role includes planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and supervising all aspects of summer school operations to ensure a high-quality learning experience that supports student success. The ideal internal candidates are those working toward or currently hold a Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification and who have demonstrated campus leadership, excellent student management skills, and strong organizational and communication capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Working toward or currently hold a Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification (preferred).
- Demonstrated experience assuming campus leadership responsibilities (required).
- Excellent student management and disciplinary skills.
- Strong organizational and personnel management skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of the summer school program, aligning goals with district priorities and student needs.
- Provide instructional leadership to summer staff to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
- Establish and communicate expectations for classroom instruction, student engagement, and professional conduct.
- Ensure a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment.
- Oversee student discipline in accordance with the district code of conduct and communicate expectations clearly to students and staff.
- Encourage academic engagement and participation throughout the program.
- Facilitate staff orientation and professional development as appropriate.
- Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to teachers and support staff.
- Manage daily campus operations, schedules, student attendance systems, and records.
- Develop and administer a budget based on documented program needs and estimated enrollment ensuring that operations are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.
- Ensure compliance with district policies, state and federal regulations.
Work Conditions:
- Summer school calendar schedule as determined by the district.
- Work may include some non-traditional hours and requires responsiveness throughout the summer session.
