About the Role
The Music Vocal Teacher leads both foundational vocal training and afternoon vocal intensives for students ages 9-15 during our 3-week Summer Arts Conservatory session.
This role blends structured technical instruction with performance preparation, culminating in a final showcase featuring four ensemble songs.
We are looking for a dynamic, organized educator who can build strong technique while fostering confidence, musicality, and ensemble collaboration.
Camp Schedule & Important Dates
- Camp Runs: Monday-Friday, June 22 - July 10 (Monday-Friday), No camp on Friday, July 3
- Hours: 8:00 am - 3:30 pm (6.5 paid hours, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch)
- All-Staff Training: June 2nd in the evening in La Cañada (3 hours - required)
- Curriculum Training: 1-2 hour Zoom training in late May.
- Camp Set Up: Saturday, June 20th (all day - required)
- Availability for the full session and training is required.
Responsibilities
Morning Classes (5 classes daily, around 20 students each)
- Teach proper vocal technique and breath support
- Lead scales and pitch accuracy exercises
- Teach rhythm, note recognition, and musicality
- Introduce basic sight-reading (melodies, intervals, key signatures, rhythm patterns, vocal scores)
Afternoon Intensive (10-15 students from 12:30 - 3:30 pm)
- Lead genre-based vocal training (Classical, Pop, Jazz, Broadway/Musical Theatre, etc.)
- Direct a small choral ensemble
- Develop blend, harmony, and musical phrasing
- Stage singers in choral formations
- Prepare four polished ensemble pieces for the final showcase
We provide full curriculum support, including lesson plans, worksheets, repertoire, and presentation materials. The instructor’s role is to bring the curriculum to life through engaging instruction and strong classroom leadership.
Qualifications
- Strong vocal background and music theory knowledge
- Experience teaching or directing youth vocal groups
- Ability to teach foundational sight-reading skills
- Experience directing small ensemble performances
- Strong classroom management skills
- Organized, enthusiastic, and collaborative

Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress in Music, Vocal Performance, Music Education, or related field; or equivalent professional experience teaching music/vocal performance to children
- Demonstrated experience teaching singing to youth
- Ability to commit to the full camp session and required training
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work to arrive on time for scheduled shifts
- Preferred: LACHSA alum or faculty, or CSULA student/alum
- Willing to complete a background screening
Physical & Technology Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to move around the classroom and campus
- Ability to supervise students indoors and outdoors
- Ability to climb stairs or move between buildings
- Must have access to a smartphone capable of sending texts and running required communication apps for student and staff safety and communication

Compensation
The Summer Arts Conservatory Music Vocal Teacher is hired as an hourly employee. The 2026 Pay Rate: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour.
New employees are typically hired at the base rate. Returning employees may fall within the posted range based on years of service, experience, education, certifications, and performance.
