About the Role
The Cinematic Arts Teacher leads foundational instruction in visual storytelling and oversees hands-on student film production during our 3-week Summer Arts Conservatory session.
This role blends structured classroom teaching with project-based leadership. The ideal candidate can manage large groups, guide creative collaboration, and maintain organization and accountability across multiple film teams.
Camp Schedule & Important Dates
- Camp Runs: Monday-Friday, June 22 - July 10 (Monday-Friday), No camp on Friday, July 3
- Hours: 8:00 am - 3:30 pm (6.5 paid hours, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch)
- All-Staff Training: June 2nd in the evening in La Cañada (3 hours - required)
- Curriculum Training: Saturday, June 6th in La Cañada (4 hours in the morning - required)
- Camp Set Up: Saturday, June 20th (all day - required)
- Availability for the full session and training is required.
Responsibilities
Morning Classes (5 classes daily, up to 20 campers per class) - Teach foundations of visual storytelling, including:
- Story structure (beginning, conflict, resolution)
- Character development and dialogue writing
- Script formatting and scene breakdown
- Shot composition and visual storytelling techniques
- Basics of directing and production planning
Afternoon Film Production
- Oversee 10 Team Producers leading small groups (6–8 campers each)
- Present project expectations and creative frameworks
- Guide campers in creating a commercial, music video, and short film
- Ensure teams remain organized, focused, and on schedule
- Support classroom management and team collaboration
- Guide filming techniques, directing, basic editing, and post-production
Curriculum outlines and project frameworks are provided. The instructor’s role is to deliver engaging instruction while maintaining structure, accountability, and professionalism.
Qualifications
- Background in film, media arts, screenwriting, or related field
- Experience teaching or mentoring youth in creative projects
- Knowledge of filming techniques and basic video editing
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Ability to manage large groups while supporting staff collaboration

Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress in Film, Media Arts, Screenwriting, Education, or related field; or equivalent professional experience teaching filmmaking or media arts to children
- Demonstrated experience working with youth in a classroom or camp setting
- Proficiency working with DSLR cameras
- Proficiency working with Adobe Premiere Pro
- Ability to commit to the full camp session and required training
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work to arrive on time for scheduled shifts
- Willing to complete a background screening
Physical & Technology Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to move around the classroom and campus
- Ability to supervise students indoors and outdoors
- Ability to climb stairs or move between buildings
- Must have access to a smartphone capable of sending texts and running required communication apps for student and staff safety and communication

Compensation
The Summer Arts Conservatory Cinematic Arts Teacher is hired as an hourly employee. The 2026 Pay Rate: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour.
New employees are typically hired at the base rate. Returning employees may fall within the posted range based on years of service, experience, education, certifications, and performance.
