Position Title: Mechanical Design Engineer - Local Candidates Considered (In Office Position)

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Works With: Testing, Service, Sales, Purchasing, Production, and Engineering Product Development.

FLSA Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt

Purpose: Use 2D and 3D design software to create designs and technical drawings for mechanical devices and equipment.

Responsibilities:

1. Uses computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software (Solidworks) to develop designs of new and existing product.

  • Develops mechanical concepts and layouts of machines and components. Determines associated angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, finishes, tolerances, forces and moments as required.
  • Creates and revises production drawings for detail and assembly.
  • Generates assembly models and component layouts, verifying dimensional tolerances of components, specifying materials to be used, dependencies of components, and relationships between various components within an assembly.

2. Utilizes knowledge of mechanical relationships, codes, engineering theory/practices, mathematics, mechanics of materials, and other physical sciences to develop mechanical assemblies and components.

  • Generates detailed multi-view drawings of assemblies and components.
  • Creates technical specification drawings for components.

3. Responsible for implementing design changes based on ECR/ECO’s (engineering change request/order).

  • Communicates with engineering, purchasing, quality and manufacturing regarding changes that will affect production. Where the technical details of the ECR/ECO must be clearly documented and communicated to those affected.

4. Evaluate designs using FEA iteration and perform cost analysis on concept variants.

5. Must work with purchasing and quality to ensure items are within spec and acceptable for production use.

6. Creates Bills of Material (BOM) and maintains their accuracy by performing audits and maintenance as defined by the ECR/ECO processes.

7. Sets up and maintains an organized file system for production drawings.

8. Converts existing production drawings to Solidworks.

9. Validates designed components and assemblies using various test methods.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. This position requires a High School Diploma and 1 years of SolidWorks experience (Preferred).

  • Experience with inventory management/manufacturing software (ERP) is recommended.
  • Must have strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be familiar with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5).
  • Must have a strong understanding of draft techniques.
  • Must be a good communicator.
  • Must be able to collaborate with engineers and others to generate new ideas and provide solutions to existing issues related to engineering.
  • Must have proficient math skills in algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and pre-calculus.

Physical Demands, Working Conditions, and Work Environment:

1. Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

2. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; using measurement devices at distances close to the eyes. Must have color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus to bring an object into sharp focus.

3. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.) Occasionally the worker is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, vibration and will work near moving mechanical parts and have risk of electrical shock.

4. Ability to prioritize and maintain calm under stressful conditions of multiple simultaneous demands. Flexibility, able to switch direction, priorities without notice.

5. This position will require an employee to be able to be sedentary for long periods of time in an environment with the noise level of an average office.

6. Reliable performance and physical attendance are required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
