What are the responsibilities and job description for the Catering Event Captain position at Sugar Pine Catering?
Requirements:
- Hard worker with a positive attitude
- Willingness to learn and grow and take initiatives.
- Run food from the kitchen to the guest tables
- Set up and breakdown of ceremony and dining room as needed
- Set up buffets with food presentation standards and practices in mind, ensuring safe food handling performance
- Serve plated dinners or family-style platters to guests and respond to requests
- Communicate with banquet supervisor as well as other servers and event organizers
- Clean up the venue after the event ends and assist with inventory, design storage, and other closeout tasks
- Look for opportunities to elevate service: fold napkins, fill water glasses, etc
- Know Wi-FI passwords, exits, bathroom location, and general venue information
- Communicate with all kitchen staff if there is a change in the timeline at any point.
- The Event Captain should consult with the timeline provided in their captain’s paperwork to stay on schedule. Be able to adapt if things are running slowly or quickly.
- New staff assigned at an event may require on-the-job training.
- Train all new staff during the event
- Communicate with the event planner during the event to ensure everything is on time and confirm all details of the event.
- Assign duties for all staff during the event.
- Manage serving crew at the event.
- Refer to captain's notes containing rental orders, floor plan, and one sheet upon arrival at the event.
- Work with the front of house and back of the house to ensure all catering aspects run smoothly for the night.
- Keep the event moving according to the timeline.
- Guide staff throughout the event.

- Prepared to work in both indoor and outdoor events
- Understand the use of basic food service equipment: coffee machines, ovens, ice machines, beverage dispensers, etc.
- Prepared to work with commercial cleaning products and equipment: dish detergent, commercial dishwasher, floor cleansers, broom, mop, and bucket
