Job Summary:

The MLL Dept. Lead will serve as the primary point of support and coordination for the school’s Multilingual Language Learner (MLL) program across grades K–12. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with state requirements, providing strategic support to classroom teachers and MLL staff, and promoting language equity and academic success for all MLL students.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Coordination & Compliance

  • Collaborate with the Testing Coordinator to develop the school’s annual WIDA and ACCESS testing plan and calendar.

  • Ensure all MLL accommodations are up-to-date and accurately reflected for all state and school-level testing purposes.

  • Guarantee the creation and timely distribution of EL (English Learner) plans to appropriate staff and verify that teachers understand how to implement them effectively.

  • Monitor screening referrals by regularly connecting with teachers to identify students who may need initial MLL screening.

Teacher Support & Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison to general education teachers, providing ongoing communication and collaboration to support MLL student needs within their classrooms.

  • Identify, source, and share instructional tools and resources with staff that promote effective MLL instruction and language development strategies.

  • Conduct bi-weekly check-ins with MLL teachers to provide guidance, problem-solving support, and coaching, and submit a brief report of findings and progress to Mrs. Graham.

  • Offer real-time support to MLL teachers as needs arise, ensuring they are equipped to deliver high-quality instruction and interventions.



Family & Staff Engagement

  • Create with the MLL team and distribute a monthly MLL Newsletter to families and staff, highlighting updates, instructional tips, resources, and key dates.

  • Assist in developing communication strategies that promote inclusion, understanding, and language access for multilingual families.

Professional Learning & Development

  • Stay current with NCDPI MLL guidance and actively participate in state-provided professional development (PD) offerings.

  • Share key takeaways and strategies from PD sessions with staff to build overall school capacity in serving multilingual learners.

Systematic data gathering and interpretation

  • Schedule biweekly meetings with Ms. Adams to dig deep into data, interpret and analyze MLL data, specifically EL progress data
  • Keep a tracking system to ensure MLL teachers are progress monitoring and collecting data for each of their students

Success Metrics for MLL Program Coordination Role

1. Program Coordination & Compliance

  • ? 100% of MLL accommodations are accurately documented and updated in testing systems by state and school deadlines.

  • ? 100% of EL Plans are distributed to teachers within 5 school days of identification or updates.

  • ? 95% teacher understanding rate (measured by brief follow-up survey or mini-assessment) of EL Plan implementation strategies.

  • ? Monthly audit of new student referrals with an average 48-hour response time from identification to screening coordination.

  • ? Zero compliance flags from testing audits related to MLL accommodations or documentation.

2. Teacher Support & Collaboration

  • ? Bi-weekly check-ins with MLL teachers are completed as scheduled and logged in a shared document.

  • ? 100% of general education teachers of MLL students receive a beginning-of-year overview of EL Plan supports and quarterly refreshers.

  • ? Quarterly instructional resource toolkit shared with staff (e.g., strategy guides, sentence stems, visual supports).

  • ? 80% of MLL teachers report feeling “supported” or “very supported” in anonymous quarterly feedback surveys.

  • ? Real-time support requests addressed within 2 school days of notification.

3. Family & Staff Engagement

  • ? Monthly MLL newsletter is distributed on time (by the 5th of each month) to staff and MLL families in both English and home languages (as needed).

  • ? 3 multilingual family engagement strategies developed and documented per semester (e.g., translated materials, interpreter support, family nights).

  • ? At least one family touchpoint (event, call, or communication) per MLL student per quarter is documented.

4. Professional Learning & Development

  • ? Participation in 100% of NCDPI-required MLL PD sessions.

  • ? Post-PD takeaways summarized and shared with relevant staff within 1 week of session.

  • ? 2 school-based PD or resource shares per semester led or co-led to build staff capacity on multilingual support.

Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching license with ESL or MLL endorsement preferred

  • Demonstrated experience working with multilingual students in K–12 settings

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of EL compliance, accommodations, and culturally responsive teaching practices

  • Commitment to equity and inclusion for all learners

Working Conditions:

  • School-based; occasional meetings or training may be off-site

  • Flexible collaboration with multiple grade levels and departments

  • Reports  bi-weekly to school leadership (Mrs. Graham); or as needed
