MIG Welder / Steel Fabricator Suffolk Steel Corp | Riverhead, NY Full-Time --- About Us Suffolk Steel Corp is a premier metal fabrication facility in Riverhead, NY. We specialize in custom metal fabrication and heavy-duty precast concrete forms (septic tanks, manholes, catch basins, utility vaults, and trench drains). We pride ourselves on precision, quality craftsmanship, and reliable turnarounds. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced MIG Welder / Fabricator to join our shop floor. In this role, you will read structural drawings, layout components, and weld heavy-gauge steel assemblies—primarily steel molds and forms used in precast concrete manufacturing. Key Responsibilities Welding: Perform high-quality MIG (GMAW) welds on structural steel, plate, and custom precast concrete molds. Fabrication & Assembly: Cut, grind, fit, clamp, and assemble steel forms according to shop drawings and specifications. Blueprint Reading: Interpret welding symbols, fabrication drawings, and structural schematics accurately. Quality & Inspection: Inspect fit-ups and completed welds to ensure structural integrity and tight tolerances for concrete formwork. Shop Safety: Maintain a safe, clean work environment and operate machinery (overhead cranes, metal shears, bandsaws, ironworkers) safely. Qualifications Experience: 2 years of professional MIG welding and metal fabrication experience. Precast Form Experience: Prior experience building or repairing steel molds for precast concrete (septic tanks, catch basins, drainage rings) is a strong plus. Technical Skills: Proficient with MIG welders, plasma cutters, grinders, and standard shop metalworking tools. Print Reading: Ability to read and execute complex structural blueprints and welding symbols independently. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long shifts, and work in a high-volume shop setting.
