Role Overview
Suburban Capital is an entrepreneurial real estate development firm focused on hospitality projects (hotels). We are seeking a Development Associate to support the planning, permitting, and execution of projects from early-stage concept through pre-construction.
This is a hands-on, entry-level role offering direct exposure to all aspects of the development process. The Development Associate will work closely with internal leadership and external partners to help advance projects through design, permitting, and pre-construction phases.
Key Responsibilities
Site Planning & Design Coordination
- Collaborate with civil engineers, architects, and consultants on site planning and design
- Review plans and track revisions to ensure alignment with project objectives and zoning requirements
- Assist in evaluating site layouts, density, and feasibility
Permitting & Entitlements
- Research zoning codes, land use regulations, and jurisdictional requirements
- Prepare and submit permit and entitlement applications
- Track approvals, timelines, and municipal feedback
- Coordinate revisions and resubmissions as needed
- Assist with planning, zoning, and public meetings
Project Coordination
- Serve as a point of coordination between internal team members and external stakeholders
- Manage communication with consultants, attorneys, and municipal staff
- Track approvals, key milestones, and municipal feedback to keep projects on schedule
Due Diligence & Analysis
- Support early-stage project feasibility and site evaluation
- Gather and organize information related to utilities, access, environmental factors, and constraints
- Identify potential risks or delays in the development process
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in Real Estate, Urban Planning, Engineering, Construction, or related field preferred
- 0-2 years of experience (internships in real estate, construction, or planning a plus)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Proactive, self-starter mindset with strong follow-through
- Interest in real estate development, land use, and the entitlement process
