The Systems Engineer – Platform & Mechanical Systems is responsible for ensuring our physical vessels are always safe, reliable and operationally ready for demanding customer‑facing opportunities. The role owns the hull, structure, propulsion, steering, fuel systems, mechanical auxiliaries, energy storage, power‑generation and distribution hardware, launch‑and‑recovery systems, and the transport and handling of craft and associated equipment.
Working as part of the Mission Success team, the role must conduct rigorous pre/post‑operation checks and preventative maintenance, executes rapid repairs, and applies intelligent, practical engineering judgement, structured data capture and disciplined root‑cause analysis to prevent platform failures in front of customers and to turn any emerging issues into clear, actionable lessons that drive continuous improvement and adaptation of the vessels
Responsibilities Will Include
Platform readiness and maintenance
- Conduct rigorous pre/post‑operation checks and preventative maintenance on across the platform and wider systems to maximise reliability and availability.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, defect logs and service histories for each vessel and major subsystem.
- Diagnose faults across the entire system using instrumentation, data and sound engineering judgement.
- Implement safe, rapid field repairs and workarounds to return platforms to service with minimal disruption, escalating recurring issues and proposed fixes to design teams.
- Capture operational and maintenance data and lead root‑cause analysis for platform and mechanical incidents, ensuring lessons learned are documented and shared.
- Recommend design, maintenance and operating‑procedure improvements that enhance reliability, safety and supportability.
- Support mechanical integration and minor modification of payloads, sensors and ancillary equipment, ensuring structural integrity and watertightness.
- Ensure safe launch and recovery of vessels, and oversee the operation and upkeep of trailers, cradles, lifting points and other handling equipment.
- Manage the physical readiness, packing, transport and protection of platforms, trailers and associated equipment
- Define and maintain spares, tools and consumables holdings and support site set‑up/tear‑down so platforms are always ready for customer‑facing activity.
- Always apply safe‑system‑of‑work practices and ensure activities align with relevant maritime, lifting and electrical safety standards.
- Act as the on‑site technical authority for platform and mechanical matters within the Mission Success team.
Required Qualifications
- Experience maintaining marine, automotive, or mechanical systems
- Mechanical troubleshooting experience
- Ability to work in operational and field environments
- Marine propulsion experience
- Military mechanical maintenance background
- Experience supporting expeditionary operations
- Ability to lift and handle equipment
- Ability to work around vessels and mechanical systems
For certain roles, candidates may also be required to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance. In the majority of cases, eligibility for clearance will require US citizenship and will be subject to applicable federal laws and regulations.
