Overview
The Academic Support Center Peer Tutors are student leaders that provide course content-specific peer tutoring for their fellow students in high needs and other courses. Sometimes called Learning Coaches, peer tutors also assist tutees with building collegiate level study skills and learning strategies that will enhance critical thinking and understanding of course material.

Hours and Pay Rate:
Hours are flexible and students will work 1-5 hours per week on average. Pay Rate: $16.30 - $16.60
Length of Employment: Applicants that can commit to a full semester or longer are preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Working in Peer Learning Groups (PLuGs) and in one-on-one settings, Peer Tutors will help tutees with adult development related to collegiate level academic responsibilities. Work with 1 to 3 (or more based on schedule and demand) individuals or groups at a time and attend scheduled supervision meetings and/or monthly administrative meetings and/or ad hoc trainings.
Peer Tutors are trained in tutoring and coaching pedagogy in our REQUIRED 0-1 credit online asynchronous training course (COLL 21500). This 7-module course is self-paced so that PSCs can coach as they learn. Experienced seniors may be exempt from taking COLL 21500, as are students who have taken BIOL 280 or PHYS 280 or ICSM 20000.
Qualifications:
Excellent academic standing & recommended by faculty (GPA 3.0 or above)
Excellent judicial standing (no current Student Conduct violations)
Excellent communication skills
Desire to grow and learn
Commitment to student academic success
One semester of course experience at Ithaca College
Preferred Qualifications - all of the above, plus:
Experience as tutor or teaching assistant
Sophomore standing
Understands the principles, practices, and responsibilities of cultural humility and safety for diverse populations Available to commit to two or more semesters
