Campus Center Operations Staff (Fall '26 start)

Student
Ithaca, NY Part Time
POSTED ON 3/3/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/3/2026

The Campus Center Operations Staff run the Campus Center, providing key services to the entire college community. The Operations Staff helps maintain the Information Desk, supervises the Recreation Center, and sets-up for all events in the Campus Center facility, and run Prunty’s Pantry (the food pantry). The Campus Center is open and staffed seven days a week for 15 hours a day.  We are also open and staffed during breaks and over the summer.

Operations staff members must be able to take direction and complete tasks independently, display a positive attitude even when doing challenging physical work, and be enthusiastic to help the IC community and guests as well as co-workers.  Operations Staff must attend weekly staff meetings (Tuesdays at 12:00pm), and must be prepared to work frequent early mornings, late nights, and weekends in all of our service areas.

Pay Rate: 16.00

Hiring Manager: Sybil Conrad

Information Desk Area

At the Information Desk, the Operations Staff must exhibit outstanding customer service while working independently. Whether it’s answering phone calls or assisting people who walk up to the Information Desk, the Operations Staff members must be knowledgeable about schools and departments at IC, and knowledgeable about resources and general Ithaca community information. These valuable staff members are often the first person someone calls when seeking information about the college, and the ability to use college resources and the internet to find answers and information is vital to answering each question in a timely and correct manner. While working at the Information Desk, Operations Staff also manage the campus Lost and Found (tagging, tracking, and retrieving lost items and assisting with other tasks and projects as needed).

Recreation Center Area

The Operations Staff also oversees all activities in the Recreation Center, ensuring that students are utilizing equipment in a safe and appropriate manner (billiard tables, ping-pong table, etc.). To do this, the staff members in the Recreation Center must also exhibit exceptional student service skills, since they are supervising and managing student visitors to this recreational space throughout their shift.  Staff members also need to be comfortable with confrontation, addressing any behaviors that don’t comply with policies or may be inappropriate or unsafe.

Set-Up Area

These shifts are spread throughout the week and weekend.  The times are different each day and week, based on the events that take place in the Campus Center.  This area requires schedule flexibility, and staff members are expected to take a minimum of one or two set-up shifts each week. These shifts are assigned and reviewed in our weekly staff meetings.  While setting up and taking down events, the Operations Staff must have thorough knowledge of where set up equipment is stored in the building, proper and safe use of equipment, and working knowledge of set-up terms and styles.

Food Pantry Area

Students working in Prunty’s Pantry provide support for the food pantry in a variety of ways including receiving deliveries, unpacking and storing food in our storage locations, restocking the pantry, assisting with open pantry hours, signing visitors in to the client portal, training volunteers, and assisting with marketing and public relations as needed.

To apply for the Campus Center Operations position, please submit your application by midnight on Monday, March 16th.  As part of your application, please answer the following seven questions and submit your answers as a “Supporting Document” (section 2 of the application process).  Preference will be given to first-year and sophomore students and students with more availability to work in their schedule.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email Sybil Conrad, the director of the Campus Center, at sconrad@ithaca.edu
