Stu’s Home Improvement Outlet — Dubuque’s fastest-growing home improvement & discount warehouse — is looking for a hands-on Warehouse Team Leader to help run daily back-end operations. This role is fast-paced, highly organized, and crucial to keeping our store running efficiently. You will lead a team responsible for receiving, sorting, assembling, testing, pricing flow, and prepping merchandise for the sales floor.
We move hundreds of products weekly (appliances, furniture, tools, flooring, and more), and we need a leader who thrives on structure, accountability, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
Lead the warehouse team (assembly, sorting, testing, cleaning, staging).
Oversee inbound truck unloads, dock organization, and inventory flow.
Ensure all items are sorted quickly and accurately (Wayfair, Costco, Home Depot, Lowes liquidation pallets, etc.).
Assign tasks daily and ensure all team members stay on schedule.
Inspect completed assemblies for accuracy and quality.
Ensure priced items get to the hallway promptly for Baker/pricing team.
Coordinate with the Operations Manager for floor placement and staging.
Keep warehouse organized, safe, and compliant with OSHA best practices.
Maintain standards: 5–7 assembled/processed items per hour per assembler.
Ensure correct tagging (green tags, as-is items, clearance, custom sale items).
Team Leadership
Train new warehouse staff on assembly, sorting, testing, and safety.
Hold the team accountable to daily task lists and production metrics.
Redirect and coach employees as needed to maintain performance.
Communicate directly with sales staff when a “warehouse call” is needed.
Support employees in problem-solving missing parts, damaged items, etc.
Model a positive, hard-working, “get it done” culture.
Inventory & Workflow Management
Maintain clean, organized dock areas and staging zones.
Move completed merchandise to the showroom for final placement.
Oversee proper handling of scratch-and-dent, as-is, and damaged items.
Monitor inventory age and ensure older products get processed first.
Work closely with sales & pricing team to identify priority items.
Requirements
Minimum 1–2 years of warehouse, logistics, or retail back-end experience.
Experience assembling furniture or appliances strongly preferred.
Proven leadership ability — even if informal — with a team-first mentality.
Ability to lift 50–75 lbs regularly and handle large products safely.
High attention to detail and pride in quality work.
Must thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Forklift/pallet jack experience is a plus (but we can train the right person).
Schedule:
Full-time; two nights per week until 8 PM
Every other weekend rotation
Flexible to support truck unloads and peak inventory days
