What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool Room Mold Technician position at Stryten Energy?
Stryten Energy, manufactures proprietary and custom injection molding products serving the industrial lead battery, automotive and consumer markets. Stryten Energy is expanding battery poly manufacturing and recycling output to help solve industry-wide supply constraints.
The Mold Machinist is a key contributor who performs various duties related to maintenance and upkeep of injection mold tooling, machinery, and related equipment. This will include the repair of industrial tooling for plastic injection machines, manual machining operations utilizing typical toolroom equipment, analyzing operational problems, testing equipment, correcting issues, and providing input and suggestions regarding tooling and molding issues; all to keep our production flowing.
Opening on 3rd shift (Sunday - Thursday; 11pm - 7am)
Pay rate: $30.60/hour, plus a $1.00/hour shift differential
- Perform various duties relating to maintenance and upkeep of tooling and related plastic injection molding equipment.
- Moves injection molds around the facility as required by the toolroom and production departments.
- Disassembly of injection molds, cleaning, changeover of components, and reassembly of the mold when completed
- Electrical checks of mold heaters and thermocouples.
- Water pressure checks for of molding circuits.
- Troubleshoot tooling issues in the production area and in the tooling room, recommend and implement solutions to fix problems.
- Operate necessary equipment including manual lathes, mills, surface grinders drill presses, hand tools, and other associated equipment to repair existing and fabricate new components
- Ability to effectively manage time and meet specified deadlines, and work with a sense of urgency when presses or lines are down
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures including the use of PPE and safety equipment.
- Participate in continuous improvement, 5S, and other lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Continuously improve the general housekeeping, organization of equipment, tools, and supplies to keep workstations as efficient as possible.
- Good communication with process engineering to work on improving molding through tooling improvements and processing; diagnose/troubleshoot and help/implement corrections to tooling problems with other facilities.
- Must complete all required hazardous waste training and comply with all Stryten hazardous waste and handling procedures.
- Must have the ability and willingness to work overtime on an as needed/required basis in order to complete work in process and communicate with other shifts.
- Work within established policies, procedures, practices, and regulations.

Preferred Experience:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D, preferred but not required
- Apprenticeship Training certificate (preferred but not required).
- Manual Machinist skills: Lathe, Bridgeport mill, Surface grinder and typical manual toolroom machinery operation skillls strongly preferred.
- Injection mold tooling experience preferred but not requiredUnderstanding of machining principles and practices is strongly preferred.
- Fundamental understanding of injection molding.
- Thorough understanding of mold construction and mold maintenance principles a plus
- Must demonstrate a high level of mechanical aptitude.Welding; TIG and MIG experience a plus
- Good communication and documentation skills with the ability to work well with others
- Must be able to troubleshoot and repair molds as needed.
- Must complete a Lock Out/Tag Out training program.
- Proven satisfactory work history (attendance and performance). This must be maintained. Attendance is critical to this position.

- This position requires you to be on site at our Columbus, IN plant.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
