General Summary of the Position
Our growth has created an excellent opportunity for the right person to join the team as a Superintendent. This role is responsible for leading and managing the Foremen, field crews, and project execution while ensuring alignment with safety and quality standards.
Essential Responsibilities & Functions
Project Oversight
- Lead and manage Foremen.
- Provide guidance and coaching to Foremen and teams to ensure a quality installation that meets client expectations.
- With adept foresight and an understanding of the scope of work, identify potential issues and proactively develop solutions to avoid delays or disruptions.
- In collaboration with the Foremen and their teams, identify and implement cost-savings measures without compromising quality.
- Lead all on-site construction activities to ensure project completion according to schedule, budget, and quality standards.
- Update project schedules on an ongoing basis.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, internal support teams, and suppliers.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including daily logs, progress reports, and change orders.
- Serve as the general point of contact for clients in your portfolio, as the Foremen are the contacts for their specific jobsite. Address and resolve any issues or concerns promptly.
Team Leadership & Development
- Must understand, live, and actively promote Structures’ policies, culture, and ways-of-working.
- Provide daily, ongoing leadership to Foremen & teams on project delivery, staffing, and scheduling.
- Supervise and provide as much direction as needed to Foremen and other site personnel.
- Actively and visibly foster a positive and productive work environment both at the job site and in the office.
- Collaborate with HR and other leadership to hire, coach, and terminate field operations personnel.
- Mentor and train Foremen and other site personnel to develop their skills, knowledge, and abilities, delivering projects ahead of schedule and under budget.
Safety & Quality
- Promote, enforce, and continuously improve upon Structures’ strong safety culture.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, including taking an active role in planning and executing Safety Day, in collaboration with the Director of Safety and the safety committee.
- Conduct multiple safety audits at jobsites nationally in alignment with Structures’ safety program to ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
- Implement, enforce, and continuously improve quality control procedures to ensure our finished product meets design specifications and surpasses industry standards. Provide real-time coaching and problem-solving to Foremen to immediately resolve any issues.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role required.
- 5-10 Years of experience with large-scale civil and sitework for commercial projects required
- Experience with large-scale commercial retaining wall projects (5,000 sq ft and above)
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Certifications such as: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health Certification, Certified Construction Manager (CCM), LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) are preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required; valid CDL also required, or the ability to obtain one within the first 90 days of employment.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Proven background in earthwork and civil site conditions with the ability to read and set grade.
- Effectively read and discuss blueprints, specifications, and contracts.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficient in construction management software (e.g., B2W, Fieldwire, Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project).
- In-depth knowledge of construction processes, building codes, and OSHA regulations.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure.
Working Conditions
- The Superintendent will primarily work on construction sites, which may involve exposure to various weather conditions and physical hazards.
- Ability to work extended hours as needed to meet project deadlines; this may include occasional nights and weekends.
- Regular travel to project sites is required in personal and/or company vehicle.
- This position may require up to 40% national travel.
